International audience; L’École Supérieure du Professorat et de l’Éducation de l’Université de Franche-Comté dispose depuis 2016 d’une plateforme numérique pour l’enseignement, appelée « classe laboratoire ». L’expérience d’étudiants1 utilisant pour la première fois ce dispositif dans le cadre de leur formation a été recueillie. Dans cette étude qualitative, l’approche de l’expérience-utilisateur a été mobilisée pour identifier les caractéristiques de l’environnement conduisant à un niveau optimal d’expérience. Need for speed? Exploring the relative importance of patents and utility models among German firms

Despite the wide use of two-tiered patent systems (patents and utility models (UMs)), there is little empirical evidence about how often UMs are actually used, what kind of firms use them to protect their intellectual property, and how firms rank them relative to patents. We offer such an analysis using data from Germany. We find that larger firms are more likely to use both protection methods. Moreover, a short life cycle of products and services is associated with an increased likelihood to use UMs. The features and functioning of the German UM system are of broader interest because it has been a benchmark for several second tier patent protection systems around the world. peerReviewed

El De Proprietate Animalium de Manuel Files es un poema didáctico del s. XIV que parafrasea libremente varias fuentes literarias de contenido zoológico, entre las que destaca la Historia Animalium de Claudio Eliano. Un análisis detallado de los procedimientos de sustitución léxica realizado por el autor, apoyado en la consulta de los diccionarios bizantinos, permite reconocer su originalidad compositiva, la riqueza expresiva de su vocabulario poético, pero también la clara conciencia de la existencia de diferentes niveles de lengua y de los muy diversos registros utilizados por el autor.
Battery- and Petrol-Powered Chainsaws: An Investigation of Productivity in Conifer Thinning

In recent years, battery technology has been greatly improved and some types of battery chainsaws are currently comparable with light-type petrol machines, suggesting their possible introduction into forest operations. In this context, the aim of this study was to test and compare the performance, in a Douglas-fir thinning, of two chainsaws similar in terms of weight and power, the Stihl MS 220 CB battery-powered saw and the Stihl MS 201 CM petrol-powered saw, measuring the working times and calculating the productivities. Removal of silicon from CFB-derived fly ash leachate in the context of phosphorus recovery

High concentrations of dissolved silica in the acid leachate impose two major challenges on precipitation based recovery of phosphorus (P). Firstly, co-precipitation of colloidal silica in the acidic regimes decreases the purity and value of precipitated P-products. In addition, silica scaling on internal surfaces of equipment is also a problematic issue in industrial operations. Therefore, removal of dissolved silica prior to P-recovery process minimizes the risks of Si-contamination in P-products and Si-scaling. Physico-chemical characterisation of a non-conventional food protein source from earthworms and sensory impact in arepas

International audience; This study aimed to characterise a non-conventional protein source: a powder made from earthworms, and to evaluate its potential use as human food. The way it was prepared led to low solubility and wide particle size distribution. Sensory analysis was used to assess the acceptability and the organoleptic properties of maize-based pan-cakes fortified with this novel protein powder. Satisfying products were obtained with a substitution level of 5.5% (w/w) earthworm powder in pan-cakes.
