Alt vil være, som det var før. Krisediskurs og utopi i Ben Lerners 10:04

2020

Tempi del racconto e racconto del tempo in Piove all’insù

2022

Times of narration and narration of the time in Piove all’insù · The article hosts an analysis of the time categories in Luca Rastello’s novel Piove all’insù (2006). In the first section there is a survey of the verb tenses used in the narration of the past by the main character (who is also the narrator). These tenses contribute to make the two periods of time (the 1970s and the 2000s) constantly overlap each other. A second section is dedicated to the influence of the peculiar timeframes on the anti-utopian and pseudo-science-fictional gradient of the novel. A third section faces the issue of the father/son confrontation in Piove all’insù. All these elements help to define a notion of lit…

Dystopia deconstructed: Applying the triple helix model to a failed utopia

2016

This study analyzes the failure of a literary utopian system—Veronica Roth's Divergent—drawing from difference, which the divergent and the factionless represent. The analysis of the causes and consequences of difference from a socioeconomic perspective reveals a system that the triple helix model can improve. The adapted model based on cooperation and knowledge transfer adds two connections to the three main axes: Universities (Erudite), Government (Abnegation), and Industry (Amity), and gives the divergent a key role: inter-faction coordinators. Following a review of European migration policies, the study explores the creation of a new faction for the factionless. Regarding innovation, th…

Pierwsza nowoczesna retrotopia? "Don Kichote" Miguela de Cervantesa w perspektywie późnego Zygmunta Baumana

2022

The article considers Cervantes's classical work through the prism of retrotopia, as understood in late Bauman. Retrotopia is a double negation of utopia, an attempt to return to an imaginary past, which usually happens in the face of an uncertain future. The first part of the article indicates a clear analogy between the conceptualization of retrotopia and Don Quixote's key themes. These include the issue of nostalgia for times past, the problem ofviolence, ora return to tribal thinking in terms o f”us” versus "them.” The second part o f the text briefly examines Don Quixote as an expression of retrotopian longing for an imaginary past o f a Golden Age, an idyllic era of justice and humanis…

Necessary Transformation or Safe Permanence? A Philosophical Approach to the Desire for Change

2011

What is proposed is a meditation on the phrase ‘transformation of the educational system’, paying attention to the sense of the words, and showing what the desire for educational change can reveal. After explaining to what extent ‘educational system’ is a quasi-oxymoron, the meaning of ‘transformation’ has to be compared to those of revolution and utopia. The claim to be transforming the educational system is an attempt to adapt education to social and political situations and constraints. The case of the Langevin-Wallon project in France, which was never applied, helps when wondering what has to be adapted to what. What sort of reciprocity is there between school and society? The organisa…

On Utopias, Neo-Catholics and Politics

2021

This paper explores the approprietness of utopia used as an analytical category in relation to the political project of Neo-Cath…

On the Relationship Between Contemporary Novel-Essay and Science-Fiction

2022

The article inquires upon a possible connection (both formal and thematical) between the literary genre of science-fiction and the form of the novel-essay. Both of them trace their roots back to the late 19th century culture and share a philosophical ambition to interpret the world through narrative philosophy, albeit in opposed ways. After sketching a brief history of the two forms (also underlining their crossroads and similarities), the essay concludes with a parallel reading of two novels by David Foster Wallace and Michel Houellebecq in late 20th century. An open question upon the future paths of a "science-fictional" novel-essay is placed at the end.
