This study examines spousal choice and its gendered dimensions in the Kurdish diaspora, particularly among Kurds resident in Finland. Abstract This paper seeks to advance research on the nexus of language, work-related training and affective capitalism by focusing on an entrepreneurship workshop organized for newly arrived refugees in Germany. Despite the occupational orientation, the primary objective of the workshop was not establishing a business but “empowering” the participants by guiding them to adopt “an entrepreneurial mindset”. Artikkeli tarkastelee maaseutumaisella alueella asuvien maahanmuuttajien kotoutumista useiden eri tekijöiden kautta. Tutkimuksessa on hyödynnetty sekä kvantitatiivista postikyselyä että kvalitatiivista teemahaastattelua. Kotoutumisesta piirtyvä kuva näyttää useimpien maahanmuuttajien kohdalla myönteiseltä. Erityisesti virolaisten tilanne on selvästi muita valoisampi: heidän suomen kielen taitonsa on muita ryhmiä parempi, ja he ovat työllistyneet ja onnistuneet vakauttamaan työmarkkina-asemaansa muita ryhmiä paremmin. AbstractFinland has only relatively recently become a country of immigration, and as a result most immigration and integration policy legislation is also relatively recent. Since the 1990s, the number of migrants to Finland has increased steadily, motivating the adoption of various policy measures to regulate migration and support integration. Digital materialities in the diasporic mourning of migrant death

This article examines memorialization among the family and friends of those who have died at the world’s deadliest border in the Mediterranean Sea. Digital media platforms are central spaces for new, innovative forms of coping with ambiguous loss or the inability to mourn over a dead body. The analysis focuses on the role of digital media technologies and the relationship between digital and material elements in memorialization. I examine the creation and circulation of digital objects of memorialization: visual assemblages in which the material and digital intertwine. Where do the highly educated migrate? Micro-level evidence from finland

This paper analyses the role which migration of highly educated labour plays in human capital reallocation. The study focuses on actual migrants, examining the direct effect of educational attainment on destination choices. The paper uses the ordered probability model and a micro-level data set in econometric analyses. Individual level investigations of migrants show that highly educated migrants are likely to move to urban regions. As a result, the reallocation of highly educated labour, and thereby also the redistribution of human capital, seems to be taking place in Finland. peerReviewed
