Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxylase Activity and Malate Content of Spruce Needles of Healthy and Damaged Trees at Three Mountain Sites

Summary Investigations were carried out on the phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) activity and the malate content in spruce trees [Picea abies (L.) Karst] at three natural sites. In needles of damaged spruce the PEPC activity is significantly higher than in needles of undamaged spruce. Therefore, the PEPC activity seems to be a biochemical damage indicator in spruce needles. The increase in PEPC activity in damaged trees is discussed as a repair mechanism to compensate the increased need of carbon skeletons by providing oxaloacetate. Tutkielman tavoitteena on tutkia, kuinka Eeva Kilven teos Kuolinsiivous osallistuu julkiseen keskusteluun vanhuudesta ja millaista vanhuuskuvaa se rakentaa, sekä Eeva Kilven myöhäistä tyyliä eli hänen ikänsä ja lähestyvän kuolemansa vaikutusta teokseen. Kysymykseen Kuolinsiivouksen vanhuuskuvasta liittyy oletus teoksen asettumisesta vastarintaan medialle tyypillisiä vanhuuden kurjuutta ja koomisuutta korostavia puhe- ja kuvaamistapoja vastaan. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tarkastella musiikin vaikutusta katsojan tulkintaan ja odotusten syntymiseen elokuvan Funny Games (1997) avauskohtauksen kautta. Kohtauksessa soiva musiikki on nähty kuvastavan elokuvan yleistä tunnelmaa ja juonta erittäin hyvin ja tämän vuoksi musiikin on nähty viestivän katsojalle sisällöltään epämukavasta elokuvasta. Tutkimusta varten haastateltiin yhteensä kolmea yliopisto-opiskelijaa, jotka katsoivat lyhyen ja pitkän version kohtauksesta ja sen pohjalta kertoivat näkemyksistään elokuvan jatkosta ja kohtauksen sisällöstä. The client of forest damage is rapidly characterized by visible criteria such as loss and yellowing of leaves and needles Additionally damage to Norway spruce (Picea abies) and silver fit (Abies alba) can be diagnosed by biochemical criteria. The results in the present study performed in 1993 and 1994 on six Norway Spruces of each of the eleven open air stands in south-western Germany indicate that the activity of phosphoenol pyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) correlates with the extent of damage and of the loss of needles, respectively. Features and application of coupled cold plasma and photocatalysis processes for decontamination of water

Dielectric barrier discharge plasma and photocatalysis have been proposed as tools for decontamination of process water, especially in food industry. The present investigation aims to redefine and identify the features of coupling the two technologies in terms of degradation efficiency of a model compound. Results show that, when the process is carried out in plasma activated water in the presence of irradiated TiO2, the efficiency of the integrated process is lower than the sum of the two processes acting separately.
