Family language policy among Kurdish–Persian speaking families in Kermanshah, Iran

Abstract Minority language studies have received increasing attention over the last decade in Iran. Drawing on Spolsky’s (Spolsky, Bernard. 2004. Language policy. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press) language policy theoretical framework, this inquiry reports on the language ideologies, practices, and management efforts of an under-explored group of Kurdish families residing in the city of Kermanshah. To this end, semi-structured interviews and ethnographic fieldwork guided the collection of data from 40 Kurdish–Persian bilingual parents. Gender equality is an essential part of Finnish self-understanding. The public discussion on equality does not, however, only focus on gender; it is also used to promote antiimmigration-minded, homophobic opinions. In the article, the co-existence of contradictory discourses on gender equality is interpreted as populist rhetoric. The articulations of gender equality in online debates on gender, sexuality, and immigration are analyzed. Työssäni tarkastelen tunnustuksen käsitteen perusteita. Työni perustuu Axel Honnethin teorialle tunnustuksen käsitteestä. Honneth rakentaa normatiivista yhteiskuntateoriaa ja tarkastelee hyvän yhteiskunnan yleisiä piirteitä yksilön hyvän itsesuhteen, toimintakyvyn ja kaikinpuolisen hyvinvoinnin kannalta tärkeiden tunnustussuhteiden kautta. Lisäksi työssäni käsittelen myös muiden antamia vastauksia tunnustuksen problematiikasta. Tähän liittyen selvitän kulttuurisiin identiteettien liittyviä kysymyksiä. Indigenous language education in Russia: current issues and challenges

Despite the high number of recognised Indigenous groups who are struggling to maintain their languages, cultures, and identities in Russia, there is little research done on the matters of cultural and linguistic revitalisation. This study sought to address this gap by exploring the views of two Indigenous groups, Karelian and Mari, on the development of their Indigenous languages and educational strategies to protect and revive their languages. The study relied on in-depth one-on-one interviews with 20 participants, ten from each Indigenous group.
