Cost analysis of the first two year of universal mass vaccination against rotavirus in Sicily

2015

Background Rotavirus vaccination (RV) is recognized by international health authority as the best strategy to prevent rotavirus gastroenteritis (RVGE) in children. Costs of RVGE were estimated in several studies and were classified into direct and indirect costs, that should be further divided into Health care and social perspective. This study aims to evaluate RVGE hospitalization costs in Sicily, before and after universal mass RV (UMRV) introduction. Methods Cases of RVGE were defined as all hospitalizations with an ICD-9-CM diagnosis code of 008.61 on any diagnosis position among children aged 0 to 59 months. Data were obtained from Hospital discharge records (HDR) of the Health Regiona…

Tuning antiviral CD8 T-cell response via proline-altered peptide ligand vaccination

2019

AbstractViral escape from CD8+cytotoxic T lymphocyte responses correlates with disease progression and represents a significant challenge for vaccination. Here, we demonstrate that CD8+T cell recognition of the naturally occurring MHC-I-restricted LCMV-associated immune escape variant Y4F is restored following vaccination with a proline-altered peptide ligand (APL). The APL increases MHC/peptide (pMHC) complex stability, rigidifies the peptide and facilitates T cell receptor (TCR) recognition through reduced entropy costs. Structural analyses of pMHC complexes before and after TCR binding, combined with biophysical analyses, revealed that although the TCR binds similarly to all complexes, t…

Vaccine Hesitancy on Social Media: Sentiment Analysis from June 2011 to April 2019

2021

Vaccine hesitancy was one of the ten major threats to global health in 2019, according to the World Health Organisation. Nowadays, social media has an important role in the spread of information, misinformation, and disinformation about vaccines. Monitoring vaccine-related conversations on social media could help us to identify the factors that contribute to vaccine confidence in each historical period and geographical area. We used a hybrid approach to perform an opinion-mining analysis on 1,499,227 vaccine-related tweets published on Twitter from 1st June 2011 to 30th April 2019. Our algorithm classified 69.36% of the tweets as neutral, 21.78% as positive, and 8.86% as negative. The perce…

Vaccination en général et vaccination anti-COVID

2021

This book presents a societal research analysis of an exploratory study of the general public concerning the obstacles to vaccination. It highlights the fact that sociological anchors would be determinant in the decision making regarding vaccination. This study more broadly invites us to consider modern and post-modern anchors as possible determinants in the positions of individuals in relation to various subjects of science-society.

Efficacy of oral reimmunisation after immersion vaccination against Vibrio vulnificus in farmed European eels

2004

Abstract Vulnivaccine, a licensed vaccine against Vibrio vulnificus , protects eels against vibriosis after vaccination by triple prolonged immersion at glass eel stage. Protection lasts for at least 6 months, but later, protection decreases, and eels can suffer stress-related vibriosis. The main objective of this work was to design an oral vaccine that can be used for reimmunisation at any developmental eel stage. With this aim, the efficacy of Vulnivaccine mixed with food as an oral booster was tested in an eel farm. The protection and the immune response (innate and acquired) in serum, mucus (from skin and intestine) and bile were evaluated in reimmunised and control animals (non-reimmun…

Moralna odpowiedzialność rodziców za szczepienie dzieci - czynniki modyfikujące w realiach polskich

2020

Metoda badawcza: w badaniach zastosowano desk research, a więc analizę danych zastanych, z uwzględnieniem dostępnych dokumentów, bad…

Adaptation and Preliminary Validation of the Fear of Coronavirus Vaccination Scale in the Prospective Study among a Representative Sample of Polish, …

2022

Although concerns about harm and side effects are among the most important factors determining vaccine hesitancy, research on the fear of vaccination is sparse. The purpose of this study is a validation the Fear of Coronavirus Vaccination Scale (FoCVVS), adapted from the Fear of COVID-19 Scale. A representative sample of 1723 young adults aged 20–40 from Poland, Israel, Slovenia, and Germany participated during two time-points of the third COVID-19 pandemic wave. The online survey included demographic variables and several well-being dimensions, including gender, vaccination status, fear of coronavirus (FoCV-19S), physical health (GSRH), life satisfaction (SWLS), and perceived stress (PSS-1…

Anaphylaxie nach gleichzeitiger Impfung gegen Masern, Mumps, Röteln und Frühsommer-Meningoenzephalitis aufgrund einer Gelatineallergie

2006

Most allergic reactions after vaccination occur in patients sensitive to egg protein. Therefore this subject is well investigated, and the majority of common vaccines today contain only traces of egg protein. In contrast, there is little knowledge of hypersensitivities to other substances frequently contained in vaccines, e. g. antibiotics, phenol, gelatin and different preservatives. Here we report the case of a boy who had an anaphylactic reaction after being vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), and tick-born encephalitis (TBE) simultaneously. Different tests finally revealed a hypersensitivity to gelatin. This should be kept in mind especially during emergency care, since ge…

Combination vaccines containing DTPa–Hib: impact of IPV and coadministration of CRM197 conjugates

2008

Vaccination with diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis (DTPa)-Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) combinations generally elicits anti-polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate (PRP) antibody concentrations of more than 0.15 microg/ml, a criterion that is linked to the protection of infants against Hib disease. In the UK, vaccination with DTPa3-Hib elicited atypically low anti-PRP antibody levels and was associated with breakthrough Hib cases. While the absence of a toddler booster is considered to be a key factor explaining the lowered control of Hib disease, we propose that the coadministration of serogroup C Neisseria meningitidis conjugate vaccine (MenC)-CRM197, which coincided with the introductio…
