Spontaneous creation of circularly polarized photons in chiral astrophysical systems
2020
This work establishes a relation between chiral anomalies in curved spacetimes and the radiative content of the gravitational field. In particular, we show that a flux of circularly polarized gravitational waves triggers the spontaneous creation of photons with net circular polarization from the quantum vacuum. Using waveform catalogues we identify precessing binary black holes as astrophysical configurations that emit such gravitational radiation, and then solve the fully non-linear Einstein's equations with numerical relativity to evaluate the net effect. The quantum amplitude for a merger is comparable to the Hawking emission rate of the final black hole, and small to be directly observe…
Cosmological Applications of Extended Electromagnetism
2013
Extended electromagnetism (EE) has been applied to cosmology in various papers. In all of them, the zero order energy density of the EE vector field plays the same role as vacuum energy. Perturbations of this field have been studied by using different approaches. Firstly, some basic equations and ideas are summarized and, then, the CMBFAST code is used to calculate the cosmic microwave background angular power spectrum for appropriate values of the EE parameters. Comparisons of the resulting spectra with a good observational one compatible with WMAP7 (Wilkinson map anisotropy probe 7 years data) seem to be promising. We are currently looking for a set of parameters leading to the best fitti…
Probing the creatable character of some significant universe models
2008
An unambiguous physical definition of creatable universes was recently proposed. According to it, flat and closed Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) backgrounds can be created as quantum vacuum fluctuations, whereas open backgrounds are not creatable. Here, physically motivated perturbations of closed and flat backgrounds are analyzed. Various creatable perturbed FRW universes are thus found. Some of them involve scalar and tensor perturbations with appropriate spectra, whereas other ones are Bianchi models.
