Approach of the State Pharmacopeia of Ukraine to analytical procedures validation on the example of chloride ions assay in peritoneal dialysis soluti…

2019

The objective of this study was to develop and validate an alternative analytical procedure for the total chloride assay in solutions for peritoneal dialysis (PD). The proposed analytical procedure was validated according to the requirements of the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) Guideline: Topic ICH Q2(R1) and the approach of the State Pharmacopeia of Ukraine (SPU). The analytical procedure was specific. The li-nearity of the procedure was evaluated in the concentration range of 76 to 114 mmol/L of chloride ions (80-120% of the stated content (95 mmol/L)) with the regression equation y = 1.0029 ∑ X -0.2269 and a correlation coefficient of 0.9989. The y-intercept of the regr…

Effect of the Converging Pipe on the Performance of a Lucid Spherical Rotor

2018

Lucid spherical rotor is a cross-flow rotor developed to be installed within a pipeline. The purpose of installing this type of rotor is to collect excess energy available in gravity-fed water pipelines. In order to enhance the efficiency of the rotor which is installed in a channel, this paper aims to study the performance of Lucid spherical rotor with converging pipe. Numerical investigations were carried out to analyze the effect of the converging pipe on the performance of the rotor. Numerical simulations have been carried out using the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations in conjunction with the realizable $$k-{\varepsilon }$$ turbulence model. The validation of the numer…

Experimental validation of a novel compact focusing scheme for future energy-frontier linear lepton colliders.

2014

A novel scheme for the focusing of high-energy leptons in future linear colliders was proposed in 2001 [ P. Raimondi and A. Seryi , Phys. Rev. Lett. 86 , 3779 ( 2001 ) ]. This scheme has many advantageous properties over previously studied focusing schemes, including being significantly shorter for a given energy and having a significantly better energy bandwidth. Experimental results from the ATF2 accelerator at KEK are presented that validate the operating principle of such a scheme by demonstrating the demagnification of a 1.3 GeV electron beam down to below 65 nm in height using an energy-scaled version of the compact focusing optics designed for the ILC collider.

Liquid-liquid phase coexistence in gold clusters. 2D or not 2D?

2006

The thermodynamics of gold cluster anions (${\mathrm{Au}}_{N}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, $N=11,\dots{},14$) is investigated using quantum molecular dynamics. Our simulations suggest that ${\mathrm{Au}}_{N}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ may exhibit a novel, freestanding planar liquid phase which dynamically coexists with a normal three-dimensional liquid. Upon cooling with experimentally realizable cooling rates, the entropy-favored three-dimensional liquid clusters often supercool and solidify into the ``wrong'' dimensionality. This indicates that experimental validation of theoretically predicted ${\mathrm{Au}}_{N}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ ground states might be more complicated than hitherto expected.

Investigation of an entropic stabilizer for the lattice-Boltzmann method

2015

The lattice-Boltzmann (LB) method is commonly used for the simulation of fluid flows at the hydrodynamic level of description. Due to its kinetic theory origins, the standard LB schemes carry more degrees of freedom than strictly needed, e.g., for the approximation of solutions to the Navier-stokes equation. In particular, there is freedom in the details of the so-called collision operator. This aspect was recently utilized when an entropic stabilizer, based on the principle of maximizing local entropy, was proposed for the LB method [I. V. Karlin, F. Bosch, and S. S. Chikatamarla, ¨ Phys. Rev. E 90, 031302(R) (2014)]. The proposed stabilizer can be considered as an add-on or extension to b…

Colloquium: Laboratory experiments on hydromagnetic dynamos

2002

Cosmic magnetic fields, including the fields of planets, stars, and galaxies, are believed to be caused by dynamo action in moving electrically conducting fluids. While the theory and numerics of hydromagnetic dynamos have flourished during recent decades, an experimental validation of the effect was missing until recently. We sketch the long history towards a working laboratory dynamo. We report on the first successful experiments at the sodium facilities in Riga and Karlsruhe, and on other experiments which are carried out or planned at various places in the world.

Measuring Social Solidarity. Some Research Notes

2012

Abstract There is an increasing public, political and research interest in social solidarity. Even though the concept has a long history and is embedded in solid approaches, there is not much literature concerned with its measurement. The paper falls into the area of the methodological studies of social solidarity and it deals with construct validation. The objective of this paper is to test for convergent validity and nomological validity of two sets of items aiming to measure social solidarity attitudes and acts. The main method employed is confirmatory factor analysis.

Application of Molecular Topology to the Prediction of Water Quality Indices of Alkylphenol Pollutants

2011

In this paper, topological-mathematical models based on multilineal regression analysis have been built as a model of the degradability of 26 alkylphenols through the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Biochemical Oxigen Demand (BOD5). Two models with three-variable were selected (r2= 0.8793 and q2=0.8075 for log(1/COD) and r2= 0.8928 and q2=0.8327 for log(1/BOD5). The models were validated by cross-validation, internal validation and randomization tests. The results, which stand in good accordance with the obtained results, confirm the robustness of the method.
