A nonlinear electronic circuit mimicking the neuronal activity in presence of noise

2013

We propose a nonlinear electronic circuit simulating the neuronal activity in a noisy environment. This electronic circuit is ruled by the set of Bonhaeffer-Van der Pol equations and is excited with a white gaussian noise, that is without external deterministic stimuli. Under these conditions, our circuits reveals the Coherence Resonance signature, that is an optimum of regularity in the system response for a given noise intensity.

Collocation Method for Linear BVPs via B-spline Based Fuzzy Transform

2018

The paper is devoted to an application of a modified F-transform technique based on B-splines in solving linear boundary value problems via the collocation method. An approximate solution is sought as a composite F-transform of a discrete function (which allows the solution to be compactly stored as the values of this discrete function). We demonstrate the effectiveness of the described technique with numerical examples, compare it with other methods and propose theoretical results on the order of approximation when the fuzzy partition is based on cubic B-splines.

A comparison analysis between unsymmetric and symmetric radial basis function collocation methods for the numerical solution of partial differential …

2002

Abstract In this article, we present a thorough numerical comparison between unsymmetric and symmetric radial basis function collocation methods for the numerical solution of boundary value problems for partial differential equations. A series of test examples was solved with these two schemes, different problems with different type of governing equations, and boundary conditions. Particular emphasis was paid to the ability of these schemes to solve the steady-state convection-diffusion equation at high values of the Peclet number. From the examples tested in this work, it was observed that the system of algebraic equations obtained with the symmetric method was in general simpler to solve …

Prognostic and predictive factors in colorectal cancer: Kirsten Ras in CRC (RASCAL) and TP53CRC collaborative studies.

2005

Mutations in the Ki-ras and TP53 genes are the most frequently observed genetic alterations in colorectal cancer (CRC). Ki-ras mutations are mostly found in codons 12 and 13, and less in codon 61. The majority of the TP53 mutations occur in the core domain which contains the sequence-specific DNA binding activity of the protein, and they results in loss of DNA binding. Few centres have sufficient patients to collect detailed information in the large numbers required to determine the impact of individual ki-ras and TP53 genotypes on outcome. Moreover, it has been reported that specific genetic alterations, and not any mutation, might play a different biological role in cancer progression. Fo…

Early prediction of coma recovery after cardiac arrest with blinded pupillometry

2017

Objectives Prognostication studies on comatose cardiac arrest (CA) patients are limited by lack of blinding, potentially causing overestimation of outcome predictors and self-fulfilling prophecy. Using a blinded approach, we analysed the value of quantitative automated pupillometry to predict neurological recovery after CA. Methods We examined a prospective cohort of 103 comatose adult patients who were unconscious 48 hours after CA and underwent repeated measurements of quantitative pupillary light reflex (PLR) using the Neurolight-Algiscan® device. Clinical examination, electroencephalography (EEG), somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP) and serum neuron specific enolase (NSE) were perfor…

Zur Existenz von Lösungen gewisser Randwertaufgaben

1971

With the aid of some known results about integral equations of the Hammerstein type there is proofed an existence theorem for the following class of boundary value problems−y″−l 2 y′=f(x,y),y(a)=y(b)=0,l 2>0 mit|f(x, y)|=0,l 3 (x)>0. The existence range is determined by the greatest eigenvalue of some linear problem.

Reduction of a Non—Linear Parabolic Initial—Boundary Value Problem to Cauchy Problem for a System of ODEs

2004

We consider the boundary value problem for a parabolic equation in the form $$\frac{{\partial {\text{u}}}}{{\partial t}} = \frac{1}{{p(x)}}\frac{\partial }{{\partial x}}\left( {p(x)f'(u)\frac{{\partial u}}{{\partial x}}} \right) + F(u),x \in (0,l),t0,$$ (1) $$u(0,x) = {u_0}(x),$$ (2) $$\frac{{\partial u}}{{\partial x}}{|_{x = 0}} = {f_1}\left( {{u_1}} \right),$$ (3) $$\frac{{\partial u}}{{\partial x}}{|_{x = 1}} = {f_2}\left( {{u_2}} \right),$$ (4) where u = u(t,x) is the unknown function, f 1, f 2, F, f are nonlinear functions and f′ (u) > 0, $${u_1} = {u_1}\left( t \right) \equiv u\left( {t,0} \right),{u_2} = {u_2}(t) \equiv u\left( {t,l} \right),f'\left( u \right) \equiv df(u)/du,p(x) \g…

On Some Properties of the Dirichlet Problem at Resonance

2008

Abstract The boundary value problem at resonance 𝑥″ + 𝑥 = 𝑞 sin 𝑡 + 𝑓(𝑡,𝑥,𝑥′), 𝑥(0) = 0, 𝑥(π) = 0, is considered, where 𝑓 : [0,π] × 𝑹2 → 𝑹 is a bounded Carathéodory function, 𝑞 is a parameter. We state the multiplicity results without assuming that 𝑓 has limits.

On a Linear Diophantine Problem of Frobenius: Extending the Basis

1998

LetXk={a1, a2, …, ak},k>1, be a subset of N such that gcd(Xk)=1. We shall say that a natural numbernisdependent(onXk) if there are nonnegative integersxisuch thatnhas a representationn=∑ki=1 xiai, elseindependent. The Frobenius numberg(Xk) ofXkis the greatest integer withnosuch representation. Selmer has raised the problem of extendingXkwithout changing the value ofg. He showed that under certain conditions it is possible to add an elementc=a+kdto the arithmetic sequencea,a+d,a+2d, …, a+(k−1) d, gcd(a, d)=1, without alteringg. In this paper, we give the setCof all independent numberscsatisfyingg(A, c)=g(A), whereAcontains the elements of the arithmetic sequence. Moreover, ifa>kthen we give …

Composition of quasiconformal mappings and functions in Triebel-Lizorkin spaces

2012

Let α > 0 and p ∈ [1, ∞) satisfy αp ≤ n. Suppose that f: Rn Rn is a K-quasiconformal mapping and let u ∈ Wα, p(Rn) have compact support. We find an optimal value of β = β(α, K, n) such that u○f ∈ Wβ, p(Rn). We also give an answer to the analogous problem where we moreover assume that u is bounded.
