An extension of Guo's theorem via k--contractive retractions
2006
Abstract Let X be a infinite-dimensional Banach space. We generalize Guo's Theorem [D.J. Guo, Eigenvalues and eigenvectors of nonlinear operators, Chinese Ann. Math. 2 (1981) 65–80 [English]] to k- ψ -contractions and condensing mappings, under a condition which depends on the infimum k ψ of all k ⩾ 1 for which there exists a k- ψ -contractive retraction of the closed unit ball of the space X onto its boundary.
Revista electrónica interuniversitaria de formación del profesorado
2016
Improving the Frying Performance and Oxidative Stability of Refined Soybean Oil by Tocotrienol-Rich Unsaponifiable Matters of Kolkhoung (Pistacia khi…
2018
Increasing consumer awareness for all natural products has quickly led to growing research on new resources of potent and profitable natural antioxidants. In this context, for the first time, the Kolkhoung hull oil (KHO) (Pistacia khinjuk)-unsaponifiable matters (USM) (UHO) (100, 200, and 400 mg kg−1) were incorporated into refined soybean oil (RSO) and the oxidative stability of prepared oils was measured during 32 hours of frying. Then, the obtained results (oxidative stability) were compared to the samples containing tert-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ) (100 mg kg−1) as a common synthetic antioxidant. According to the results of oxidative stability assays of acid values, conjugated diene value…
The The Land Cadastre in Italy and some fiscal implications: a case study
2023
The Land Cadastre, as an inventory of all relevant real estate in a territory, and most importantly, as a national tax system is, or at least should be, the protago-nist of fiscal, social and civil implications affecting the Italian context. According to unitary farmland incomes, the last revision dates back to 1978-1979, a period that no longer reflects the country’s current socioeconomic situation and does not consider the changes the land market has undergone over the years. Through the analysis of 183 purchases and sales of agricultural land in two districts in western Sicily, this research aims at verifying the adequacy or inadequacy of the current cadastral tariffs. Based on the price…
Editorial: Interrogating the design of smart, sustainable, and socially just urban spaces: A look at institutions, places, and values
2022
The article is the Editorial on the Research Topic Interrogating the design of smart, sustainable, and socially just urban spaces: A look at institutions, places, and values, which explore the dynamics between the socio-technological processes – value-based design being foremost among them – through which urban space emerges and takes on meaning. Furthermore, they engage with the question of how institutional design principles shape citizen participation in these processes.
The Role of Novel Bladder Cancer Diagnostic and Surveillance Biomarkers—What Should a Urologist Really Know?
2022
The aim of this review is to analyze and describe the current landscape of bladder cancer diagnostic and surveillance biomarkers. We researched the literature from 2016 to November 2021 to find the most promising new molecules and divided them into seven different subgroups based on their function and location in the cell. Although cystoscopy and cytology are still the gold standard for diagnosis and surveillance when it comes to bladder cancer (BCa), their cost is quite a burden for national health systems worldwide. Currently, the research is focused on finding a biomarker that has high negative predictive value (NPV) and can exclude with a certainty the presence of the tumor, considering…
How value and trust influence loyalty in wireless telecommunications industry
2012
Despite making significant investments in enhancing the customer service experience, long-term customer loyalty remains an elusive dream for many service providers. Particularly in the telecommunications industry, switching providers even from within continuous contract relationships is easy and companies struggle to retain their customers. Trust and value are considered cornerstones of long-term relationships, so it is perhaps surprising that previous research on how relationship age and usage level actually affect value, trust and loyalty is inconclusive. The current research is set in the telecommunications services field and draws on a large-scale survey undertaken in Finland. The findi…
Towards an Assessment of Public Library Value
2010
PurposeThis paper aims to present a methodology, early findings, possible applications of results and lessons learned from the research study “Public libraries: value, trust and satisfaction”, which has been conducted within the public library development project ‘Father's Third Son’ in Latvia.Design/methodology/approachA combination of quantitative and qualitative methods was used (although the findings reported here are largely drawn from the quantitative study) drawing on various theories of information behaviour and use‐oriented information service evaluation.FindingsThe study gives a good picture of user information needs in Latvia, the sources they use to fulfil them and the role of p…
Infrequent promoter methylation of the MGMT gene in liver metastases from uveal melanoma.
2008
Uveal melanoma is associated with a high mortality rate once metastases occur, with over >90% of metastatic patients dying within less than 1 year from metastases to the liver. The intraarterial hepatic (iah) administration of the alkylating agent fotemustine holds some promise with response rates of 36% and median survival of 15 months. Here, we investigated whether the DNA-repair-protein MGMT may be involved in the variability of response to fotemustine and temozolomide in uveal melanoma. Epigenetic inactivation of MGMT has been demonstrated to be a predictive marker for benefit from alkylating agent therapy in glioblastoma. We found a methylated MGMT promoter in 6% of liver metastases fr…
Convective Roll Instabilities of Vertical Throughflow with Viscous Dissipation in a Horizontal Porous Layer
2009
Published version of an article from the journal: Transport in Porous Media. The original publication is available at Spingerlink. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11242-009-9417-y The vertical throughflow with viscous dissipation in a horizontal porous layer is studied. The horizontal plane boundaries are assumed to be isothermal with unequal temperatures and bottom heating. A basic stationary solution of the governing equations with a uniform vertical velocity field (throughflow) is determined. The temperature field in the basic solution depends only on the vertical coordinate. Departures from the linear heat conduction profile are displayed by the temperature distribution due to the forced con…
