With this objective in mind, we have to provide tools that work with fractal objects in the same manner as with objects of classical topology. Revisited mixed-value method via symmetric BEM in the substructuring approach

Abstract Within the Symmetric Boundary Element Method, the mixed-value analysis is re-formulated. This analysis method contemplates the subdivision of the body into substructures having interface kinematical and mechanical quantities. For each substructure an elasticity equation, connecting weighted displacements and tractions to nodal displacements and forces of the same interface boundary and to external action vector, is introduced. Alternative method for binary shape alignment of non-symmetrical shapes based on minimal enclosing box

Proposed is a novel method based on the minimal enclosing box (MEB) to determine the canonical orientation associated with a three-dimensional binary shape. It is suggested that, when the shape has no clear distinctive features and two or more of the eigenvalues are similar, this method is more suitable than the commonly used method based on principal component analysis (PCA). An experiment is performed with shapes of human livers by measuring the degree on which a prototypical image (atlas) matches to a new shape after alignment by PCA, minimal area projection (MAP), and MEB showing that in this case MEB outperforms the usual PCA-based alignment method and also the MAP method.

AN AGENT BASED ARCHITECTURE FOR MANUFACTURING E-MARKETPLACES

This chapter presents the Agent Based Architecture developed within the research project, titled "Process and Production Planning in manufacturing Enterprise Networks". As mentioned in Chapter 1, the architecture has been developed to support “added value services” in neutral linear e-marketplaces, i.e. in virtual districts. In this chapter the architecture will be described from a functional and dynamic point of view by using the formalisms used in the project. In particular, from a functional perspective, the architecture is described by using the IDEF0 formalism, while its dynamics are specified by UML activity diagrams.

A generalizability measure for program synthesis with genetic programming

The generalizability of programs synthesized by genetic programming (GP) to unseen test cases is one of the main challenges of GP-based program synthesis. Recent work showed that increasing the amount of training data improves the generalizability of the programs synthesized by GP. However, generating training data is usually an expensive task as the output value for every training case must be calculated manually by the user. Therefore, this work suggests an approximation of the expected generalization ability of solution candidates found by GP.
