Changes in 18F-FDG tumor metabolism after a first course of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer: influence of tumor subtypes

2012

BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of the different breast cancer subtypes on the tumor (18)F-FDG uptake at baseline and on its changes after the first course of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). PATIENTS AND METHODS One hundred and fifteen women with newly diagnosed, large or locally advanced breast cancer undergoing NAC were included. Estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and HER2 status were used to define three major tumor subtypes: triple negative (TN) (ER-/PR-/HER2-), luminal (ER+ and/or PR+; HER2-) and HER2 positive (HER2+). Using Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography, the tumoral standard uptake value (SUV) maximal index was m…

Unusual Neuroendocrine Differentiation in a Small Round Cell Angiosarcoma: A Potential Histologic Mimicker of Superficial Ewing Sarcoma.

2018

Neuroendocrine differentiation or aberrant expression of neuroendocrine markers is very uncommon in angiosarcomas (AS) and creates a challenging differential diagnosis with other superficial or soft tissue tumors. Herein, we report a new case of superficial AS presenting as a tumor lesion on the little finger of the right hand of a 52-year-old man. The tumor displayed CD56, chromogranin-A, and synaptophysin immunoreactivity. Tumor cells were positive for vascular markers (CD31, FLI1, ERG, D2-40, VE-cadherin, VEGR1,2, and 3), CD99, and EMA, but were negative for S100, CK (AE1/AE3), CK20, polyomavirus, and myogenic (desmin and myogenin) and melanocyte markers (melan-A and HMB45). Macrophage-Specific Lipid-Based Nanoparticles Improve Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Detection and Characterization of Human Atherosclerosis

2009

ObjectivesWe sought to determine whether gadolinium (Gd)-containing lipid-based nanoparticles (NPs) targeting the macrophage scavenger receptor-B (CD36) improve cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) detection and characterization of human atherosclerosis.BackgroundGd-containing lipid-based NPs targeting macrophages have improved MR detection of murine atherosclerosis.MethodsGadolinium-containing untargeted NPs, anti-CD36 NPs, and nonspecific Fc-NPs were created. Macrophages were incubated with fluorescent targeted and nontargeted NPs to determine uptake via confocal microscopy and inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS) quantified Gd uptake. Human aortic specimens were harvested at…

Analytic response relativistic coupled-cluster theory: the first application to indium isotope shifts

2019

With increasing demand for accurate calculation of isotope shifts of atomic systems for fundamental and nuclear structure research, an analytic energy derivative approach is presented in the relativistic coupled-cluster theory framework to determine the atomic field shift and mass shift factors. This approach allows the determination of expectation values of atomic operators, overcoming fundamental problems that are present in existing atomic physics methods, i.e. it satisfies the Hellmann-Feynman theorem, does not involve any non-terminating series, and is free from choice of any perturbative parameter. As a proof of concept, the developed analytic response relativistic coupled-cluster the…

ChemInform Abstract: Experimental and Theoretical Studies on the Electronic Spectra of Indole-3-acetic Acid and Its Anionic and Protonated Species.

2010

Abstract The geometrical and electronic structure of indole-3-acetic acid (IAH) have been investigated using the MINDO/3 molecular orbital method, the geometries being optimized by Rinaldi's method. The UV spectrum of IAH has been recorded in different solvents. The corresponding spectra of IAH + 2 and IA − were also respectively obtained, from IAH in different H 2 SO 4 /water mixtures and NaOH solutions. The agreement of experimental spectra with the ones theoretically calculated by the CNDO/M-Cl method after optimization of the κ parameter, is discussed. The p K a values of IAH have also been determined from the IAH + 2 spectra and are compared with literature data.

The concept of Value beyond Economics – Social and Economic Roots for CSR

2014

Book cover Dimensional Corporate Governance pp 141–149Cite as The Concept of Value Beyond Economics: Social and Philosophical Roots for Corporate Social Responsibility Massimo Costa & Patrizia Torrecchia Chapter First Online: 08 June 2017 720 Accesses Part of the CSR, Sustainability, Ethics & Governance book series (CSEG) Abstract This paper tries to underline the importance of the concept of value for CSR and then to map the concept of value beyond Economics. In doing this it takes in consideration the Italian literature in a specific time in order to make a first step for a broader research that takes in consideration also other literatures and time.

Procalcitonin and C-reactive protein as early predictors of anastomotic leak in colorectal surgery: a prospective observational study.

2013

Although the early diagnosis of anastomotic leak is a key point in reducing its clinical consequences, in daily practice, anastomotic leak diagnosis is often late. The aim of this study was to determine whether procalcitonin and C-reactive protein are good predictors of anastomotic leak in colorectal surgery. This is a prospective observational study. This study was conducted by a specialized colorectal multidisciplinary team of a tertiary teaching hospital.A series of 205 consecutive patients who underwent elective colorectal surgery in a specialized unit was prospectively analyzed. The following data were collected: demographic, surgical, ASA class, POSSUM, and morbidity. During the first 5 …

Why do results conflict regarding the prognostic value of the methylation status in colon cancers? The role of the preservation method.

2012

Abstract Background In colorectal carcinoma, extensive gene promoter hypermethylation is called the CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP). Explaining why studies on CIMP and survival yield conflicting results is essential. Most experiments to measure DNA methylation rely on the sodium bisulfite conversion of unmethylated cytosines into uracils. No study has evaluated the performance of bisulfite conversion and methylation levels from matched cryo-preserved and Formalin-Fixed Paraffin Embedded (FFPE) samples using pyrosequencing. Methods Couples of matched cryo-preserved and FFPE samples from 40 colon adenocarcinomas were analyzed. Rates of bisulfite conversion and levels of methylation of …

Analyse économique des essais cliniques internationaux en cancérologie

2018

International audience; In oncology, as in other fields of medicine, international multicentre clinical trials came into being so as to include a sufficient number of subjects to investigate a clinical situation. The existence of tight budgetary constraints and the desire to make the best use of the resources available have resulted in the development of economic evaluations associated with these trials, which, thanks to their level of evidence and their size, provide particularly relevant material. Nonetheless, economic evaluations alongside international clinical trials raise specific questions of methodology with regard to both the design and the analysis of the results. Indeed, the cost…
