Fractional p-Laplacian evolution equations

Abstract In this paper we study the fractional p-Laplacian evolution equation given by u t ( t , x ) = ∫ A 1 | x − y | N + s p | u ( t , y ) − u ( t , x ) | p − 2 ( u ( t , y ) − u ( t , x ) ) d y for  x ∈ Ω ,  t > 0 , 0 s 1 , p ≥ 1 . In a bounded domain Ω we deal with the Dirichlet problem by taking A = R N and u = 0 in R N ∖ Ω , and the Neumann problem by taking A = Ω . We include here the limit case p = 1 that has the extra difficulty of giving a meaning to u ( y ) − u ( x ) | u ( y ) − u ( x ) | when u ( y ) = u ( x ) . The Cauchy problem in hybrid metric-Palatini f(X)-gravity

The well-formulation and the well-posedness of the Cauchy problem is discussed for {\it hybrid metric-Palatini gravity}, a recently proposed modified gravitational theory consisting of adding to the Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian an $f(R)$ term constructed {\it \`{a} la} Palatini. The theory can be recast as a scalar-tensor one predicting the existence of a light long-range scalar field that evades the local Solar System tests and is able to modify galactic and cosmological dynamics, leading to the late-time cosmic acceleration. Boundary value steady solutions of a class of hydrodynamic models for vehicular traffic flow

This paper deals with the solution of a boundary value problem related to a steady nonuniform description of a class of traffic flow models. The models are obtained by the closure of the mass conservation equation with a phenomenological relation linking the local mass velocity to the local density. The analysis is addressed to define the proper framework toward the identification of the parameter characterizing the model. The last part of the paper develops a critical analysis also addressed to the design of new traffic flow models.

Existence and Regularity for a Class of Nonlinear Hyperbolic Boundary Value Problems

AbstractThe regularity of the solution of the telegraph system with nonlinear monotone boundary conditions is investigated by two methods. The first one is based on D'Alembert-type representation formulae for the solution. In the second method the telegraph system is reduced to a linear Cauchy problem with a locally Lipschitzian functional perturbation; then regularity results are established by appealing to the theory of linear semigroups.

Cyclic heptapeptides from the soil-derived fungus Clonostachys rosea

Abstract Three new cyclic heptapeptides (1–3) together with three known compounds (4–6) were isolated from a solid rice culture of the soil-derived fungus Clonostachys rosea. Fermentation of the fungus on white beans instead of rice afforded a new γ-lactam (7) and a known γ-lactone (8) that were not detected in the former extracts. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR spectra as well as by HRESIMS data. Compounds 1 and 4 exhibited significant cytotoxicity against the L5178Y mouse lymphoma cell line with IC50 values of 4.1 and 0.1 µM, respectively. Onset of heart failure determines the hepatic cell death pattern.

Background and rationale. Acute and chronic heart failure (HF) may affect the liver, but the underlying mechanisms that lead to progressive liver damage are poorly understood. The hepatic cytokeratin-18 (CK18) epitopes M65 and M30 have been reported to distinguish between overall (necrotic) and apoptotic cell death, respectively. We aimed to evaluate the predominant hepatic cell death pattern in acute vs. chronic heart failure and examined if these assays predict the course of the disease. Main results. Electron microscopic localization of nitric oxide I synthase in the organ of Corti of the guinea pig

Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity has been detected previously in the mammalian cochlea at a light microscopic level. Here we present results of electron microscopic analysis for post-embedding immunoreactivity of neural-type NOS I in the cochlea of the guinea pig. Strong enzyme immunoreactivity was identified in the cytoplasm of inner and outer hair cells. Gold-labeled NOS I antibodies were mainly located in electron-dense areas of the cytoplasm, whereas electron-lucent regions of the receptor cells were nearly free from any immunoreactivity. Storage diseases are metabolic multiorgan conditions, which may be divided into lysosomal and nonlysosomal diseases. Disorders of the lysosomal type require electron microscopy for morphological diagnosis. It is the metabolic substrate that determines involvement of the cell type or organ in the individual storage disease, allowing extracerebral biopsies, for instance, in the neuronal ceroid-lipofuscinoses (NCL).
