Email: chiara.vitucci@unipa.it 1 Nollkaemper, ‘ The European Courts and the Security Council: Between Dedoublement Fonctionnel and Balancing of Values: A Reply to De Sena and Vitucci ’ , 20 EJIL (2009) 862. Andre Nollkaemper, Grainne de Burca and Iris Canor have made a number of critical observations which are – in part at least – interesting and useful. A full examination of them would probably demand more time and more space than we have been given here. Nevertheless, we will try to reply to some of their remarks and to clear up…

Quantitative colorimetric-imaging analysis of nickel in iron meteorites.

2011

A quantitative analytical imaging approach for determining the nickel content of metallic meteorites is proposed. The approach uses a digital image of a series of standard solutions of the nickel-dimethylglyoxime coloured chelate and a meteorite sample solution subjected to the same treatment as the nickel standards for quantitation. The image is processed with suitable software to assign a colour-dependent numerical value (analytical signal) to each standard. Such a value is directly proportional to the analyte concentration, which facilitates construction of a calibration graph where the value for the unknown sample can be interpolated to calculate the nickel content of the meteorite. The…

Terms of abuse as expression and reinforcement of cultures

2008

In this study terms of abuse are investigated in 11 different cultures, Spontaneous verbal aggression is to a certain extent reminiscent of the values of a certain culture. Almost 3000 subjects from Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Croatia, Poland, Great Britain, USA, Norway, Greece, and The Netherlands were asked to write down terms of abuse that they would use given a certain stimulus situation, and in addition, to give their rating of the offensive character of those terms. A total set of 12,000 expressions was collected. The frequencies of the expressions were established, and the total list of expressions was reduced to 16 categories. Results point to some etic taboos, like sexuality and…

Training programme for novice physical activity instructors using Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) model : a programme development …

2021

Previous research indicates that programmes employing Hellison?s Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) model in physical activity have had a positive impact on youth development by increasing participants? positive values, autonomy, life skills, and prosocial behaviour. Despite encouraging results of the effects of TPSR-based programmes, there remains lack of research on the effective content of these programmes, and their implementation and evaluation. The current protocol article describes the development of a TPSR-based instructor training programme and a plan for an intervention study in which novice instructors learn to understand and apply the TPSR model in practice. The …

Communicating-care : a mediation area to the building a caring professionalism

2014

In the french context of nursing care teaching, this thesis aims at conceiving nursing as a process of mediation and communication notably between especially patients and care givers. The identified communication process involving values, self-identification and representation help to build up and express the caring professionalism. The background documents are organized from 5 types of data which are media focuses, caring acts, professional situation reports, life stories and monographs. These data allow the comprehension of the communication items which are used in the health care context, also the effects of the observed practice meanings and finally the care giver way of acting and rela…

Monitoring of fracture calluses with color Doppler sonography.

1999

Purpose Fracture callus formation is closely associated with vascular invasion, and the use of color Doppler sonography has been suggested as a means to monitor, earlier than gray-scale sonography, the first stages of the healing process. We report the findings in a series of patients with tibial fractures in whom both gray-scale sonography and color Doppler imaging were employed to monitor new bone formation at the fracture site. Methods Twenty patients with tibial fractures treated with external fixator frames were examined sonographically about 10 days after surgery and then about every 25 days until radiographic demonstration of consolidation. Results Eighteen of 20 patients had a well-…

Vitamin D and immunomodulation: Is it time to change the reference values?

2017

The term "vitamin D" refers to two chemical compounds - ergosterol, or vitamin D2, and cholecalciferol, or vitamin D3. Active vitamin D3 is correctly regarded as a neurohormone due to its pleiotropic biological activities. Although the relation between vitamin D and calcium-phosphorus metabolism has never been discussed, the knowledge on many other roles vitamin D plays is growing fast. Briefly, vitamin D immunomodulation includes attenuation and stimulation of Th1 and Th2 cell proliferation, respectively. Similarly, vitamin D can induce or inhibit the synthesis, secretion, and release of anti- inflammatory (IL- 4 and IL-10) and pro-inflammatory (IL-1, TNF-α, IFN-γ) cytokines, respectivel…

Il Paradigma della Città Fluida

2013

In current global crisis the strong flows of financial social and relational capitals that powered urban regeneration over the last fifteen years are no longer available to be tapped in an indiscriminate manner as was the case until just a few years ago. The most dynamic cities in the future will no longer be those that are able to attract urban projects and investors driven by the real estate market or leisure-based development but the cities that have deep and different cultural resources and that are able to use them as the basis for creating new urban cultures and for generating new economic values. Revitalising waterfront is no longer easy opportunity for long-term investments or for using the financial capital gains of corporation or hedge funds but a more creative-driven port city has to provide precious opportunities for real development – not only quantitative but more and more qualitative – that is able to produce effects in both the domain of collective assets and that of private capitals.Settore ICAR/21 - Urbanistica
