Streams have an important role in regulating nitrogen (N) transportation from terrestrial ecosystems to downstream waters. Here, we examined how catchment land-use affects potential denitrification rates and the function and composition of denitrifier communities in boreal stream sediments, using stable isotope incubations and qPCR and 454-pyrosequencing targeted on nirS, nirK and nosZ genes. This study was conducted to analyse detailed and generalised data regarding microhabitat factors and dimensions of spawning redd of brown trout (salmo trutta). The objectives of this study were to analyse connections between redd dimensions, connections between redd length and microhabitat factors and to analyse the variability of redd length and microhabitat factors among catchments in order to understand spawning habitat selectivity of brown trout (salmo trutta). Turve- ja metsätalouden vaikutukset kahden metsäjärven surviaissääskiyhteisöihin : paleolimnologinen tutkimus

Tutkielmassa selvitettiin turve- ja metsätalouden vaikutuksia Martinjärven ja Iso Kivijärven surviaissääskiyhteisöihin paleolimnologisen menetelmän avulla. Järvien sedimenttiprofiileita tarkasteltiin viimeisen 400 vuoden ajalta. Järvet ovat pieniä, matalia humusjärviä ja sijaitsevat Keski-Suomessa Keuruulla vierekkäisillä valuma-alueilla. Surviaissääskiyhteisöjen muutosten perusteella tutkittiin järvien rehevyystason ja humoosisuuden muutoksia ennen ja jälkeen metsätalouden ja turvetuotannon aloittamista.
