Impact loading has been associated with running-related injuries, and gait retraining has been suggested as a means of reducing impact loading and lowering the risk of injury. However, gait retraining can lead to increased perceived awkwardness and effort. Deaf asylum seekers are a marginalized group of people in refugee and forced migration studies. The aim of this paper is to explore and highlight the experiences of deaf asylum seekers in the asylum procedure in Finland. The data come from linguistic ethnographic methods, interviews, and ethnographic observation with 10 deaf asylum seekers. While living in the reception centers, the study participants have faced a range of linguistic and social challenges. Erityistä tukea tarvitsevien lasten ja nuorten fyysinen aktiivisuus on vähäisempää kuin vammattomilla lapsilla ja nuorilla. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää Valtti-ohjelman vaikutuksia 6–23-vuotiaiden erityislasten ja -nuorten fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen ja liikunnan harrastamiseen. Kaikkiaan 367 erityislasta ja -nuorta ympäri Suomea hakivat mukaan Valtti-ohjelmaan ja heistä 155 (68 % poikia, ikä ka 12.2 vuotta) osallistuivat tähän tutkimukseen. Wii-bändi : designing an expressive digital musical interface for therapeutic use with disabled people in a group setting

This thesis presents the developmental prototype of a gesturally controlled digital musical interface. It is called Wii-bändi, as it uses Nintendo Wii controllers to translate the gestures into music, and is constructed specifically for clients with a variety of physical and mental disabilities so that they can use it in a therapeutic group context.
