‘Celebrating diverse motherhood’: physically disabled women’s counter-narratives to their stigmatised identity as mothers

This study examined how disabled women negotiated their stigmatised identity as mothers by presenting counter-narratives to the culturally dominant narrative of disabled motherhood. Eleven Finnish physically disabled mothers were interviewed. The data were analysed by focusing on these counter-narratives, their linguistic features and their functions in the interviews. Validity of the Finnish version of the Parental Burnout Assessment (PBA)

The aim of the present study was to validate the Finnish version of the Parental Burnout Assessment (PBA) using data from 1,688 Finnish parents (91\% mothers) living in Finland with at least one child living at home. Confirmatory factor analyses supported the theoretical four-factor structure of the PBA – emotional exhaustion in one’s parental role, contrast with previous parental self, feelings of being fed up with one’s parental role, and emotional distancing from one’s children. Internal consistency for the total scale was excellent (Cronbach’s alpha ≥ 0.90) and for the subscales from acceptable (alpha ≥ 0.70) to excellent. Parenting culture(s): Ideal-parent beliefs across 37 countries

What is it to be “an ideal parent”? Does the answer differ across countries and social classes? To answer these questions in a way that minimizes bias and ethnocentrism, we used open-ended questions to explore ideal-parent beliefs among 8,357 mothers and 3,517 fathers from 37 countries. Leximancer Semantic Network Analysis was utilized to first determine parenting culture zones (i.e., countries with shared ideal-parent beliefs) and then extract the predominant themes and concepts in each culture zone. This chapter explores the pathways of mothers with young children into cultural and creative industries (CCIs). These women can be described as mumpreneurs, meaning that they combine running a business enterprise with looking after their children. Typically unstable, insecure, and unpredictable, CCIs also offer scope for great self-engagement and personal satisfaction. At the same time, the current culture of intensive mothering has made motherhood more challenging than in the past. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli haastatteluaineiston pohjalta tarkastella namibialaista kiintymyssuhdetodellisuutta. Tutkimuksessa pyrittiin tarkastelemaan länsimaisista käytännöistä eroavien namibialaisten lastenhoitotapojen merkitystä kiintymyssuhteen laatuun. Samoin pyrittiin ottamaan huomioon kansallisten ja yksilötason traumojen vaikutus kiintymyssuhteeseen. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli valottaa namibialaista näkökulmaa kiintymyssuhteeseen kolmen äidin ja heidän lastensa välillä. Äidin huolet lapsensa koulunkäynnistä : mikä selittää?

Tämä pro gradu –tutkielma pohjautuu Jyväskylän yliopiston ”Oppiminen ja motivaatio” - hankkeen ”Alkuportaat – Lapset, vanhemmat ja opettajat yhteistyössä koulutien alussa” - seurantatutkimukseen. Tutkimuksen aineisto kerättiin vuosina 2011 lasten ollessa neljännellä luokalla. Tutkittavia äitejä oli 125. Tutkimuksessa oltiin kiinnostuneita siitä, millaisia huolenaiheita äideillä oli liittyen lapsen koulunkäyntiin. Huolenaiheita kysyttiin kyselylomakkeella. Lisäksi oltiin kiinnostuneita siitä, selittävätkö äidin sosiaalinen tausta, koulutustaso, vanhemmuuden stressi ja masentuneisuus äitien huolia.
