Parenthood and gender inequality : Population-based evidence on the child penalty in Finland

This study presents evidence on the effect of parenthood on labor market outcomes in Finland. We use population-based data drawn from administrative registers and an event study design centered around the birth of the first child using the specification proposed in Kleven et al. (2019b). The study confirms that women encounter large short- and long-term child penalties in gross labor earnings and that penalties are associated with employment participation. Taxes and social security transfers considerably reduce the child penalty, which also varies by the number of children. peerReviewed

The purpose of this study was to explore the family dynamics in order to further understand and discover through interviews a parent and their children's behaviors in the topic area of physical activity choices. A narrative case study approach was taken to look into each family's experiences in order to better understand their motivations behind physical activity and to make conclusions of the social, environmental, and behavioral dynamics. A father’s mental health is important for family well-being, but research is scarce on paternal symptoms during the transition to fatherhood. This study identified fathers’ latent mental health trajectory classes from the pre- to postnatal period and examined their associations with early fathering experiences. Although parental burnout has been acknowledged as a unique psychological condition that can have serious consequences to families, most research so far has been conducted with mothers. The present study investigated how the descriptions of parenting-related demands and resources differ between burned-out and non-burned-out fathers. Furthermore, we examined what kinds of support or services fathers need to increase their wellbeing as parents. Isien kokemuksia valvotuista tapaamisista

Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa selvitään, miten isät kokevat lasten tapaamiset tapaamispaikassa. Isien näkökulman tarkasteleminen on tärkeää, koska tapaamispaikassa tapahtuvat lasten tapaamiset koskettavat marginaaliryhmää. Suomessa on paljon etävanhempia ja lapsia, jotka eivät voi jostain syystä tavata toisiaan ilman tukea. Tapaamispaikkatoiminta on perustettu turvaamaan lapsen ja etä-vanhemman tapaamisia työntekijöiden läsnäollessa. Isien näkemyksiä valvotuista tapaamisista ei ole myöskään tutkittu.
