A note on the existence of an invariant measure for a stochastic model with periodic coefficients

2012

We consider a stochastic model of malaria which concern the infected population and the vector population and whose coefficients are periodic functions. Under a suitable condition the existence of an invariant measure is proved.

Methodological advances in the functional profiling of genomic studies

2013

In this thesis we present bioinformatic tools and algorithms for the analysis of genomic data such as those generated by microarray devices or next generation sequencing techniques. Particularly, we develop new approaches to gene set analysis. The described procedures should be useful in practice to tackle complex biological experiments, but hopefully will also be methodologically relevant, as they introduce new ways of conceptualizing genomic functional profiling. Our very flexible approach allows for the inclusion of not just one kind of genomic measurement but many. It makes possible, for instance, to analyze expression measurement and genomic variation data at a time. This multidimensio…

Defining relations of minimal degree of the trace algebra of 3 X 3 matrices

2008

The trace algebra Cnd over a field of characteristic 0 is generated by all traces of products of d generic n × n matrices, n, d 2. Minimal sets of generators of Cnd are known for n = 2 and n = 3 for any d as well as for n = 4 and n = 5 and d = 2. The defining relations between the generators are found for n = 2 and any d and for n = 3, d = 2 only. Starting with the generating set of C3d given by Abeasis and Pittaluga in 1989, we have shown that the minimal degree of the set of defining relations of C3d is equal to 7 for any d 3. We have determined all relations of minimal degree. For d = 3 we have also found the defining relations of degree 8. The proofs are based on methods of representati…

Childhood gene-environment interactions and age-dependent effects of genetic variants associated with refractive error and myopia: The CREAM Consorti…

2016

Myopia, currently at epidemic levels in East Asia, is a leading cause of untreatable visual impairment. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in adults have identified 39 loci associated with refractive error and myopia. Here, the age-of-onset of association between genetic variants at these 39 loci and refractive error was investigated in 5200 children assessed longitudinally across ages 7–15 years, along with gene-environment interactions involving the major environmental risk-factors, nearwork and time outdoors. Specific variants could be categorized as showing evidence of: (a) early-onset effects remaining stable through childhood, (b) early-onset effects that progressed further with i…

Rat PIPPin is probably part of a large complex of RNA-binding proteins

2012

Throughout rat brain development, expression of histones variants is mainly regulated at the post-transcriptional level. We previously cloned two cDNAs encoding, respectively, PIPPin (or CSD-C2), a brain-enriched protein able to bind the 3’end of H1° and H3.3 mRNAs, and LPI (longer isoform of PEP-19). Both PEP-19 and LPI are brain-specific. By western blot, we found that PIPPin expression in PC12 cells is enhanced by NGF-induced differentiation. We investigated the RNA-binding properties of the three proteins using their 6 histidine-tagged recombinant fusions and found that they all bind H1° and H3.3 RNAs. Since PEP-19 and LPI are camstatins, we also analyzed whether calmodulin could interf…

Mesure invariante d'une equation integrale stochastique a coefficients periodiques et applications a un modele d'epidemiologie

2012

We consider a stochastic integral equation, whose coe cients are periodic in time. Under a suitable condition we prove the existence of an invariant mesure for this stochastic equation. This invariant mesure is constructed on a Banach space of continuous functions. We study also its application to an epidemiologic model of malaria, which concerns the infected population and the vector population.
