Surface contribution to the anisotropy of magnetic nanoparticles.

2002

We calculate the contribution of the Neel surface anisotropy to the effective anisotropy of magnetic nanoparticles of spherical shape cut out of a simple cubic lattice. The effective anisotropy arises because deviations of atomic magnetizations from collinearity and thus the energy depends on the orientation of the global magnetization. The result is second order in the Neel surface anisotropy, scales with the particle volume and has cubic symmetry with preferred directions [+-1,+-1,+-1].

Identification of Néel Vector Orientation in Antiferromagnetic Domains Switched by Currents in NiO/Pt Thin Films

2021

Understanding the electrical manipulation of the antiferromagnetic order is a crucial aspect to enable the design of antiferromagnetic devices working at THz frequencies. Focusing on collinear insulating antiferromagnetic $\mathrm{Ni}\mathrm{O}/\mathrm{Pt}$ thin films as a materials platform, we identify the crystallographic orientation of the domains that can be switched by currents and quantify the N\'eel-vector direction changes. We demonstrate electrical switching between different T domains by current pulses, finding that the N\'eel-vector orientation in these domains is along [$\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}5$ $\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}5$ 19], different compared to the bulk $⟨112⟩$ d…

Orientation-dependent direct and inverse spin Hall effects in Co60Fe20B20

2019

The spin Hall effect is a key element of various spintronics applications. Here, the authors study the orientation-dependent interconversion of spin and charge information in Co${}_{60}$Fe${}_{20}$B${}_{20}$. In a nonlocal magnon transport using Y${}_{3}$Fe${}_{5}$O${}_{12}$ as a spin conduit, the spin Hall effect amplitude depends on the relative alignment between the Y${}_{3}$Fe${}_{5}$O${}_{12}$ and Co${}_{60}$Fe${}_{20}$B${}_{20}$ magnetization vectors. In order to suppress direct magnonic contributions so as to study the electronic origin of this effect, Y${}_{3}$Fe${}_{5}$O${}_{12}$ and Co${}_{60}$Fe${}_{20}$B${}_{20}$ are exchange-decoupled by a Cu interlayer.

Some aspects of the orientation of galaxies in clusters

2013

The analysis of Tully's groups of galaxies belonging to the Local Supercluster (LSC) was performed. In the 1975 Hawley and Peebles presented the method for investigations of the galaxies orientation in the large structures. In our previous papers statistical test proposed by Hawley and Peebles for investigation of this problem was analyzed in details and some improvements were suggested. On this base the new method of the analysis of galactic alignment in clusters was proposed. Using this method, God{\l}owski (2012) analyzed the orientation of galaxies inside Tully's group founding no significant deviations from isotropy both in orientation of position angles and $\delta_D$ and $\eta$ angle…

Dynamic heterogeneities in the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of simple spherical spin models.

2003

The response of spherical two-spin interaction models, the spherical ferromagnet (s-FM) and the spherical Sherrington-Kirkpatrick (s-SK) model, is calculated for the protocol of the so-called nonresonant hole burning experiment (NHB) for temperatures below the respective critical temperatures. It is shown that it is possible to select dynamic features in the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of both models, one of the hallmarks of dynamic heterogeneities. The behavior of the s-SK model and the s-FM in three dimensions is very similar, showing dynamic heterogeneities in the long time behavior, i.e. in the aging regime. The appearence of dynamic heterogeneities in the s-SK model explicitly demonstr…

Neutrinos confronting large extra dimensions

2001

We study neutrino physics in a model with one large extra dimension. We assume the existence of two four-dimensional branes in the five-dimensional space-time, one for the ordinary particles and the other one for mirror particles, and we investigate neutrino masses and mixings in this scheme. Comparison of experimental neutrino data with the predictions of the model leads to various restrictions on the parameters of the model. For instance, the size of the extra dimension, R, turns out to be bounded from below. Cosmological considerations seem to favor a large R. The usual mixing schemes proposed as solutions to the solar and atmospheric neutrino anomalies are compatible with our model.

Enumerating higher-dimensional operators with on-shell amplitudes

2020

We establish a simple formula for the minimal dimension of operators leading to any helicity amplitude. It eases the systematic enumeration of independent operators from the construction of massless non-factorizable on-shell amplitudes. Little-group constraints can then be solved algorithmically for each helicity configuration to extract a complete set of spinor structures with lowest dimension. Occasionally, further reduction using momentum conservation, on-shell conditions and Schouten identities is required. A systematic procedure to account for the latter is presented. Dressing spinor structures with dot products of momenta finally yields the independent Lorentz structures for each heli…

Negative S parameter from holographic technicolor.

2006

We present a new class of 5D models, Holographic Technicolor, which fulfills the basic requirements for a candidate of comprehensible 4D strong dynamics at the electroweak scale. It is the first Technicolor-like model able to provide a vanishing or even negative tree-level S parameter, avoiding any no-go theorem on its sign. The model is described in the large-N regime. S is therefore computable: possible corrections coming from boundary terms follow the 1/N suppression, and generation of fermion masses and the S parameter issue do split up. We investigate the model's 4D dual, probably walking Technicolor-like with a large anomalous dimension.

Instantons and theΔI=1/2Rule

2001

The instanton-induced interaction leads to a significant enhancement of the Ao weak amplitude determining the DeltaI = 1/2 rule, through the contribution of operators with dimension d = 9, as we show in the weak K--> pi(pi) decay.

The baryon number two system in the Chiral Soliton Model

2012

We study the interaction between two B = 1 states in a chiral soliton model where baryons are described as non-topological solitons. By using the hedgehog solution for the B = 1 states we construct three possible B = 2 configurations to analyze the role of the relative orientation of the hedgehog quills in the dynamics. The strong dependence of the intersoliton interaction on these relative orientations reveals that studies of dense hadronic matter using this model should take into account their implications.
