2013
In a recent publication, Carli and Paniccia have identified two different approaches in Psychological Sciences. On one hand, the aim of Psychology would be to formulate general laws which may scientifically explainhuman behavior. On the other hand, Psychology would be regarded as a science of intervention, whose aim is to produce changes in individuals inrelation to their background. These are undoubtedly opposing perspectives. Although the first one is traditionally the most widely adopted, Carli and Paniccia observe that its effects on people’s lives and well-being, on coexistence and on communities have been minimal. For years our interest has focused on the current role of Psychology too.…
Depopulation in the Baltic states
2011
Maternal pre- and postnatal mental health trajectories and child mental health and development
2011
Pregnancy and early motherhood involve uncertainty and change, which can evoke mental health problems. We identified maternal mental health trajectories in pre- and postnatal period, and examined their association with later child mental health and development. Finnish mothers reported psychological distress (General Health Questionnaire [GHQ-36]) and depressive (Beck Depression Inventory [BDI-13]) symptoms in pregnancy (T1; N = 788) and two months (T2; N = 657) and 12 months (T3; N = 545) postpartum. Both parents accounted their child’s mental health (Behavior Assessment System for Children [BASC]) and social (Social Skills Rating System [SSRS], Child Behavior Scale [CBS]) and cognitive d…
Relationship between static posturography and gait analysis with the dizziness handicap inventory in vestibular patients
2012
[EN] Objective: The posturography evaluates postural control abnormalities in patients with vestibular disorders. On the other hand, the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) questionnaire quantifies the impact of these diseases on the patient’s daily life. This paper has aimed to know the relationship between posturography test results and the DHI scores. Material and Methods: A total of 29 subjects with vestibular diseases underwent a static posturography and gait analysis. The system used was NedSVE/IBV. The patients also answered DHI questions. Results: We found a statistically significant positive correlation between static posturography outcomes and physical-functional DHI scores. A stat…
Modern health worries and idiopathic environmental intolerance.
2008
Abstract Objective We conducted two studies to test whether modern health worries (MHWs) were associated with central features of a condition called idiopathic environmental intolerance (IEI) and medical care utilization. Methods In Study 1, 474 Internet users completed an Internet-based questionnaire that assessed MHWs, IEI features, and medical care utilization. In Study 2, the diagnostic specificity of MHWs was investigated by comparing the level of MHWs of three diagnostic groups: 46 people with IEI, 38 people with somatoform disorder but without IEI, and 46 people with neither IEI nor somatoform disorder. Results The good psychometric properties of the MHW scale were confirmed. MHWs we…
