L’attacco alle Twin Towers dell’11 settembre è stato un evento che ha segnato tutto il mondo ma in modo particolare i cittadini di New York, colpiti in prima persona in uno dei simboli della città. La mostra Here is New York. A Democracy of Photographs è stata una delle risposte per superare il trauma causato da questo evento, per prenderne coscienza senza rimozione ma affermando la volontà di tutti gli abitanti di New York di non cedere al terrore: la mostra collettiva delle immagini fotografiche dell’11 settembre è stato il rito collettivo della città, l’affermazione della solidarietà e della capacità non soccombere all’attacco.
