Evolutionary advantage conferred by an eukaryote-to-eukaryote gene transfer event in wine yeasts

Although an increasing number of horizontal gene transfers have been reported in eukaryotes, experimental evidence for their adaptive value is lacking. Here, we report the recent transfer of a 158-kb genomic region between Torulaspora microellipsoides and Saccharomyces cerevisiae wine yeasts or closely related strains. This genomic region has undergone several rearrangements in S. cerevisiae strains, including gene loss and gene conversion between two tandemly duplicated FOT genes encoding oligopeptide transporters. Abstract This paper focuses on a fleet management problem that arises in container trucking industry. From the container transportation company perspective, the present and future operating costs to minimize can be divided in three components: the routing costs, the resource (i.e., driver and truck) assignment costs and the container repositioning costs (i.e., the costs of restoring a given container fleet distribution over the serviced territory, as requested by the shippers that own the containers). It has been shown that small doses of oral D-glyceric acid (DGA) activate mitochondrial metabolism and reduce inflammation among 50–60-year-old healthy volunteers. The present results with the same small doses reveal that after a 4-day DGA regimen, a dose of DGA activated the HO-1 pathway acutely, while enhanced inflammatory status after the 4-day DGA regimen seemed to be able to downregulate the HO-1 pathway in non-acute measurement. Blood bilirubin was strongly upregulated towards the end of the altogether 21-day study period with positive associations towards improved inflammation and reduced blood triglycerides. Tämän kandidaatintutkielman tarkoituksena on saada tietoa Suomeen muuttaneiden kolmannen sukupolven ruotsinsuomalaisten kielellisestä ja kansallisesta identiteetistä. Tavoitteena on selvittää, kokevatko tutkittavat itsensä suomalaisiksi vai ruotsalaisiksi ja vastaavasti tuntevatko he itsensä suomenkielisiksi, ruotsinkielisiksi vai kaksikielisiksi. Lisäksi tavoitteena on saada tietoa heidän ajatuksistaan koskien mahdollisia muutoksia heidän kansallisessa ja kielellisessä identiteetissään Suomeen muuton jälkeen. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tarkastella kaksikielisyyden ja identiteetin välistä suhdetta. Tutkielmassa haluttiin selvittää millainen perusidentiteetti sekä kielellinen identiteetti kaksikielisillä ihmisillä on. Tutkimus tehtiin laadullisena tapaustutkimuksena ja tutkimusmateriaali kerättiin teemahaastattelun avulla, jossa oli myös vaikutteita syvähaastattelusta. Tutkimukseen osallistui kuusi nykyisin Keski-Suomessa asuvaa eri-ikäistä miestä ja naista, joista kolme oli suomenruotsalaista ja kolme ruotsinsuomalaista. Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoitus on tarkastella ruotsinsuomalaisten paluumuuttajien ajatuksia äidinkielestä ja kaksikielisyydestä, sekä kuvailla heidän kielellistä identiteettiään. Paluumuuttajilla tarkoitetaan tässä yhteydessä sellaisia suomalaisia, jotka ovat asuneet Suomessa ja vähintään viisi vuotta Ruotsissa. Tavoitteena on selvittää miten paluumuuttajat määrittelevät äidinkielen ja kaksikielisyyden. Lisäksi pyritään kuvailemaan heidän suhdettaan sekä suomen että ruotsin kieleen.
