Work strain in midlife and 28-year work ability trajectories

2011

We investigated the 28-year development trajectories of work ability among initially middle-aged male and female municipal employees and the association of perceived mental and physical work strain in midlife by work ability trajectory groups. The baseline data of the Finnish longitudinal study of municipal employees (FLAME) were collected in 1981 (N=6257) with follow-ups in 1985, 1992, 1997, and 2009. Work ability was assessed in all the waves as present perceived work ability relative to lifetime best. Altogether, N=2690 had work ability data in 1981 and 2009, and at least for one wave in between these years, and were included in group-based semi-parametric mixture modeling trajectory anal…

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors and Cardiotoxicity: An Analysis of Spontaneous Reports in Eudravigilance

2021

Introduction Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are widely used in the treatment of many cancers as they improve clinical outcomes. However, ICIs have also been associated with the development of immune-related adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Among immune-related ADRs, cardiac immune-related ADRs are rare, but also associated with high mortality rates. Objective The objective of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of cardiac ADRs reported with ICIs in the European spontaneous reporting system. Methods We retrieved individual case safety reports on ICI-induced cardiac ADRs from the website of suspected ADR (www.adrreports.eu) of the European pharmacovigilance database (Eudravigilance).…

Cardiorespiratory information dynamics during mental arithmetic and sustained attention

2015

An analysis of cardiorespiratory dynamics during mental arithmetic, which induces stress, and sustained attention was conducted using information theory. The information storage and internal information of heart rate variability (HRV) were determined respectively as the self-entropy of the tachogram, and the self-entropy of the tachogram conditioned to the knowledge of respiration. The information transfer and cross information from respiration to HRV were assessed as the transfer and cross-entropy, both measures of cardiorespiratory coupling. These information-theoretic measures identified significant nonlinearities in the cardiorespiratory time series. Additionally, it was shown that, alt…

Dynamical properties of the sleep EEG in different frequency bands.

1993

The information concerning the dynamic behavior of the sleep process gained by the usual evaluation of sleep EEGs according to the criteria of Rechtschaffen and Kales is limited. Therefore a new methodical approach is presented, which is a special case of spectral analyzed data processing. After digital band-pass filtering of the sleep EEG the root-mean-square (RMS) value of successive 20 s EEG epochs is calculated in defined frequency ranges. This procedure ensures to take into account the influence of the phase relation between different frequency components. The temporal course of these RMS values during the night reveals smooth curves with continuous transitions between different sleep …

A comparison of two approaches to the assessment of coping styles

1997

Abstract This study examined the association of coping style classifications based on (a) dispositional vigilance (VIG) and cognitive avoidance (CAV) and (b) trait anxiety and social desirability (SD). 281 subjects (123 men, 158 women) completed questionnaires to assess these variables. By applying median splits, subjects were divided into high and low scorers on each dimension. According to both classifications, four coping style groups were operationally defined on the basis of the respective dichotomized variables. Results yielded convergent assignments of repressers (low anxiety and high SD; low VIG and high CAV, respectively), sensitizers (high anxiety and low SD; high VIG and low CAV)…

Effects of Pulsed High-Frequency Electromagnetic Fields on Human Sleep

1996

In the present study we investigated the influence of pulsed high-frequency electromagnetic fields of digital mobile radio telephones on sleep in healthy humans. Besides a hypnotic effect with shortening of sleep onset latency, a REM suppressive effect with reduction of duration and percentage of REM sleep was found. Moreover, spectral analysis revealed qualitative alterations of the EEG signal during REM sleep with an increased spectral power density. Knowing the relevance of REM sleep for adequate information processing in the brain, especially concerning mnestic functions and learning processes, the results emphasize the necessity to carry out further investigations on the interaction of…

The dimensionality of human's electroencephalogram during sleep.

1991

In order to perform an analysis of nonlinear EEG-dynamics we investigated the EEG of ten male probands during sleep. According to Rechtschaffen and Kales (1968) we scored the sleep-EEG and applied an algorithm, proposed by Grassberger and Proccaccia (1983) to compute the correlation dimension of different sleep stages. The correlation dimension characterizes the dynamics of the EEG signal and estimates the degrees of freedom of the signal under study. We could demonstrate, that the EEG of slow wave sleep stages depicts a dimensionality, which is two units smaller than that of light or REM sleep.

THE ROLE OF THE CLINICAL PHARMACIST IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ANTIRETROVIRAL THERAPY

2020

Over the last few years, the Hospital Pharmacy has developed in an excellent way in Europe, proposing in many countries the clinical pharmacist as a new professional figure, and adapting its responsibilities to national health systems. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and promote the prescriptive appropriateness through the close collaboration between the pharmacist and the medical team. The aspect of the dispensation of antiretroviral therapy was deepened by providing useful information to the patient on the possible undesired effects and interactions due to the polypharmacy, on the correct way of storing the drugs, and on the importance of the regularity of the polypharmacy intake…
