Ultraviolet cues in fruit-frugivore interactions

All diurnal birds studied so far, many reptiles, amphibians, fish and some rodents are able to detect near-ultraviolet light (UV; 320-400 nm) invisible to humans. In many animals, UV cues have been found to play a role in foraging and mate choice. As many fruits reflect UV light, frugivores sensitive to UV may also use these cues in foraging. Fruit colours and their contrast with background coloration may attract frugivores. In this thesis, I studied the fruit colour preferences of both redwings (Turdus iliacus) and small rodents (house mice, Mus musculus and bank vole, Clethrionomys glareolus).

Measurement of parity-violating spin asymmetries in W± production at midrapidity in longitudinally polarized p+p collisions

We present midrapidity measurements from the PHENIX experiment of large parity-violating singlespin asymmetries of high transverse momentum electrons and positrons from W =Z decays, produced in longitudinally polarized p þ p collisions at center of mass energies of ffiffi s p ¼ 500 and 510 GeV. These asymmetries allow direct access to the antiquark polarized parton distribution functions due to the parityviolating nature of the W-boson coupling to quarks and antiquarks. The results presented are based on data collected in 2011, 2012, and 2013 with an integrated luminosity of 240 pb−1, which exceeds previous PHENIX published results by a factor of more than 27. Jednym z podstawowych naruszeń podlegających odpowiedzialności za naruszenie dyscypliny finansów publicznych jest dokonanie wydatku ze środków publicznych bez upoważnienia albo z przekroczeniem upoważnienia określonego w stosownych aktach planowania finansowego. Ustawa o odpowiedzialności za naruszenie dyscypliny finansów publicznych nie zawiera jednak definicji pojęć, którymi posługuje się ustawodawca przy penalizacji czynów. Our recent data suggest that during auto- and allograft recognition in sponges (Porifera), cytokines are differentially expressed. Since the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction modulates the synthesis and release of cytokines, we intended to identify one key molecule of this pathway. Therefore, a cDNA from the marine sponge Suberites domuncula encoding the MAPK was isolated and analyzed. Its encoded protein is 366 amino acids long (calculated Mr 42 209), has a TGY dual phosphorylation motif in protein kinase subdomain VIII and displays highest overall similarity to the mammalian p38 stress activated protein kinase (SAPK2), one subfamily of MAPKs. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan sukupuolineutraalia avioliittoa käsitteleviä mielipidekirjoituksia. Tavoitteena on selvittää, miten kirjoittajat suhtautuvat sukupuolineutraaliin avioliittoon tutkimalla etenkin näissä kirjoituksissa käytettyä retoriikkaa, mutta myös niiden yleisösuhdetta ja esisopimuksia. The article contains an analysis of results of the available research on the phenomenon of children’s violence toward their parents. The main purpose of this interpretation is to search for the theoretical structure of a prepared research tool, initially called the Teen Violence Scale Toward Parents (TVSTP). The subject of the analyzes were works and research reports as well as police statistics containing information on the phenomenon of domestic violence, including teenage violence toward parents.
