Challenging equal temperament : perceived differences between twelve-tone equal temperament and twelve fifth-tones tuning

A listening experiment was arranged to evaluate perceptual preferences between two musical tuning systems: twelve-tone equal temperament (i.e. the current international standard) and twelve fifth-tones tuning. The latter being a system that, according to its author Maria Renold, provides a more accurate and aurally genuine reproduction of musical harmonics. Detailed spectroscopy of the neutron-deficient bismuth isotopes ¹⁹³,¹⁹⁵Bi

Two experiments aiming to study the shape coexistence and competing structures in 193Bi and 195Bi isotopes have been performed at the Accelerator laboratory of the University of Jyv askyl a, Finland (JYFL). Many new states have been found, hugely extending the previously known level schemes for both isotopes. The i13=2 bands were extended up to I = 45/2+ in both the 193;195Bi isotopes. In case of 193Bi, the I = 31/2+ member of the i13=2 band was found to de-excite also to a long-lived isomeric state. This link determines the energy of the isomeric state to be 2350(1) keV and suggests a spin and parity of 29/2+. The half-life of the isomeric state was measured to be 85(3) s. A level structur…

Tutkin puhallinsoittimien nuottikirjoituksen käytänteitä, sekä viritysjärjestelmän suh-detta nuottikirjoitukseen. Puhallinsoittimet poikkeavat tekniseltä toteutukseltaan ja soittotekniikaltaan muista soittimista hyvin oleellisesti ja sen myötä niiden nuottikirjoituksen täytyy olla muista poikkeavaa. Tarkastelen taidemusiikissa käytettäviä merkintätapoja ja tuon esille erilaisia näkökulmia niistä. Puhallinnotaatioon liittyy vahvasti transponointi ja transponoidut nuotit ja tarkastelen tutkielmassani erilaisia nuotinnustapoja eri soittimille vireen ja nuottiavaimen suhteen. LIISA-ionilähteen vetyplasman VUV-spektrin ja H ̄ -ionisuihkun intensiteetin korrelaatio

Tässä työssä tutkitaan negatiivisen vetyionilähteen plasman tuottaman ultraviolettisäteilyn ja ionilähteen tuottaman negatiivisen vetyionisuihkun intensiteetin välistä korrelaatiota. Työssä löydettiin korrelaatio VUV-spektrin tiettyjen aallonpituusalueiden intensiteettien välisen suhteen ja Faraday-kupilla mitatun suihkuintensiteetin välillä. Korrelaatio ei kuitenkaan ole yksiselitteinen ja pätee ainoastaan rajoitetussa painealueessa. Photodynamics studies of ligand-protected gold nanoclusters by using ultrafast transient infrared spectroscopy

Highly monodisperse samples of three ligand-protected gold nanoclusters Au102(pMBA)44, Au144(SC2H4Ph)60, and a cluster tentatively identified as Au130(pMBA)50, were characterized by UV/vis and infrared spectroscopy, and their photodynamics was studied by transient absorption spectroscopy. The dynamics study for each cluster was performed by electronically exciting the cluster with a pump pulse in the visible or near infrared region and by monitoring the transient absorption of vibrational modes of the ligands with a mid-IR probe pulse.
