Atlas of Soknopaiou Nesos: project of knowledge and digital preservation. The article concerns the topography research project of the city of Soknopaiou Nesos in Fayyum. In particular, the goal of the project is the realization of a digital knowledge and conservation plan of the entire archaeological site using innovative digital survey techniques and then the creation of a topographic atlas necessary for the realization of a ceramic intrasite survey of the site.

Il contributo riguarda lo studio ricostruttivo della Casa 1 in località Monte Sant'Angelo a Licata realizzato nell'ambito delle attività di ricerca condotte dall'Università di Messina. In particolare, il lavoro ha riguardato la ricostruzione virtuale degli stucchi decorati rinvenuti durante gli scavi archeologici. The contribution concerns the reconstructive study of the Casa 1 in the locality of Monte Sant'Angelo in Licata, carried out as part of the research activities conducted by the University of Messina. In particular, the work concerned the virtual reconstruction of decorated stuccos found during archaeological excavations.

[EN] The paper concerns the 3D reconstruction and virtual restoration of a painted rock-cut chamber tombs located in the interior of Southern Etruria (Viterbo Province, Central Italy). The tomb was discovered in 1901 in a place named Pranzovico and it dates from the mid-fifth century BC; it has a cross plan with central atrium (decorated with paintings) and three chambers in which there are the rock-cut funerary beds. The paintings have been largely destroyed by illegal excavators in the days immediately following the discovery; during the 20th century it was damaged due to agricultural works in the surroundings and now it is partially filled up. This work illustrates the first results of the Project of Virtual Archaeology which is now developed by a team of topographer from Salento University (Lecce) together with the équipe of Archaeological Mission of Centro di Studi Papirologici at Soknopaiou Nesos (Fayyum, Egypt). Article also focuses on the main aims of this project : a topographical survey and virtual reconstruction of monuments, digital analysis of data, representation of urban and suburban landscape and their evolution, achievement of a special platform for using the data both on-line and off-line. The Virtual Archaeology and Restoration Project emerged from the activities conducted since 1957 by the Italian Archaeological Mission in Hierapolis (MAIER). Its aim is the study of the transformations of the urban topography as part of a specific line of research called "Virtual Hierapolis". The contribution illustrated the state of the art of the research project of the years 2007-2010.

The contribution of Virtual Archaeology to the Marmora Phrygiae project

In recent years Virtual Archaeology research activities were conducted in order to understand the urban and architectural transformations of Hierapolis. Five main lines of study were developed: (i) digital survey of the monuments, (ii) reconstructive study, (iii) digital analysis of data, (iv) 3D representation of the urban landscape and its evolution, (v) implementation of an online and offline platform. This paper discusses the main contributions these different activities made to the Marmora Phrygiae Project as regards both the study of the monuments and the reconstruction of the urban image of the city.
