The Great Departure: Rethinking National(ist) Common Sense

This article argues that, in order to overcome the national(ist) common sense that continues to haunt everyday political and scholarly interpretations of mobility, scholars need not diagnose nationalism with greater vigour, but should rather move beyond facile diagnoses of nationalism. The article calls for a meticulous tracing of relations and practices of emplacement and displacement that ubiquitous national(ist) interpretive frames both co-opt and exceed simultaneously. The purpose of this paper is to reconsider the issue of the creativity of textbook writing by exploring the links between nineteenth-century French textbooks and the quest for a classification of elements. The first section presents the elegant combination of didactic and chemical constraints invented by eighteenth-century chemists: the order of learning - from the known to the unknown - and the order of things - from the simple to the complex - were one and the same. The following paper analyzes the plot of the 1934 film It Happened One Night, by Frank Capra, an authentic emblem within the film genre of romantic comedy. In it, the protagonists manage to overcome the obstacles that are offered in their way thanks to the pretense of a relationship, the marital one, which finally will end up becoming effective. El objetivo es analizar la hermenéutica filosófica de Hans-Georg Gadamer con vistas a considerar la posibilidad de llevar a cabo una lectura intercultural a partir de sus planteamientos. Se cuestiona la lectura intercultural que de la hermenéutica de Gadamer lleva a cabo Ram Adhar Mall. Con Gadamer, pero más allá de él, se detectan las posibilidades y limitaciones de su concepto humanista de cultura (Bildung) y se ensaya un modo de autosuperación hermenéutica de la cultura en la interculturalidad.
Real and simulated endoscopy of neurosurgical approaches in an anatomical model

Endoscopy simulation is a new visualisation technique which can be used to visualise patient anatomy as seen through endoscopes. In the following, we describe the application of simulated endoscopy to neurosurgical endoscopic approaches. We assess different aspects of virtual images and their influence on the final result, as judged by clinicians. One of these aspects is the projective geometry which is used to render the 3D images. Rendering using stereographic projection leads to more realistic endoscopic views than perspective projection.
