La restituzione prospettica appartiene di diritto al corpus disciplinare della geometria descrittiva, come problema inverso della prospettiva. In passato tale tecnica è stata utilizzata ben poche volte per la ricostruzione da immagini fotografiche di architetture e opere d’arte perdute; gli strumenti digitali per la rappresentazione offrono però l’opportunità di recuperare la restituzione prospettica come strumento efficace per la ricostruzione di monumenti perduti ritratti in foto d’epoca. Abstract. The paper aims at discussing the accuracy of perspective restitution from view camera photos; view cameras are non-standard cameras frequently used in the past century for on field shooting of buildings and urban sites; this is why the reconstruction of lost buildings often deals with photos taken with a view camera. The case study chosen for the proposed experiment is an urban complex built in Palermo in the ‘50s. The reconstruction of gone, or never built buildings has ever been one of the preferred subjects of digital representation. Many researches have focused the reconstruction of buildings that were modified by human actions, as wars or demolitions, or by natural causes as earthquakes or decay. Many buildings, destroyed or reshaped from the second half of the 19th century have been photographed before they vanished; when no drawing or document are available, the memory of the architecture layout of these buildings is entrusted to few period photos. The contribution, divided between history and representation, aims to analyse the design genesis and the sources used by the architect Giovanni Amico for the modernization of the Immacolatella church’s tribune in Trapani (since 1732). The church is devoid of studies and surveys with digital instrumentation but its unique compositional characteristics, which exploit the theme of the manipulation of space and light for scenographic and liturgical purposes, require in-depth analysis. The Annunziata church was destroyed by the bombings of the Allies on May 9 1943 on the city of Palermo. However, important evidence remains of the church, built at the end of the 16th century and located near the San Giorgio gate: a 1832 drawing by Pierre-Joseph Garrez, preserved in Paris, at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, the survey of the architect Nino Pollaci of the early twentieth century, a series of historical photos, the surviving architectural fragments such as the capitals and the painted wooden coffered ceiling, preserved in various Palermitan museums, and above all the bell tower, still the only trace on the site of the now disappeared church of the Annunziata.
