Photon assisted-inversion of majority charge carriers in molecular semiconductor-based organic heterojunctions
2021
International audience; Ambipolar molecular materials hold great promises as a building block of next generation highly efficient, less complex and low cost electronics devices. In this endeavor, the present work reports the fabrication of organic heterojunction devices based on halogenated copper Phthalocyanines (CuPc) and lutetium bisphthalocyanine (LuPc2) bilayer, investigates their structural and electrical properties and probes the ambipolar behavior by ammonia sensing. Microstructural analysis of the heterostructure thin films revealed compact and semicrystalline organization, depending on the number of halogen substituents in CuPc. The heterojunction devices reveal a non-linear I(V) …
Signal Amplification in CsPbBr3 Nanoparticle-Doped Photonic Crystal Fibers
2019
Nanoparticles (NPs) have been proved for various photonic and optoelectronic applications with superior performance. Doping holey-fibers with colloidal NPs is an idea with precedents in the optical literature. For example, CdZnS/ZnS core-shell quantum dots (QDs) based lasers at visible wavelengths [1, 2]; and PbS QDs doped fiber amplifiers operating at telecommunication wavelengths [3]. In this paper we harness the potential of photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) doped with chemically synthesized CsPbBr 3 Colloidal-NPs [4] to demonstrate gain functionalities in all-fiber optical microdevices.
Ag sensitized TiO2 and NiFe2O4 three-component nanoheterostructures: synthesis, electronic structure and strongly enhanced visible light photocatalyt…
2016
This study reports on the synthesis and characterisation of two- and three-component visible light active photocatalytic nanoparticle heterostructures, based on TiO2 and NiFe2O4 and sensitized with Ag. We observe that a Ag content as small as 1 at% in the TiO2/NiFe2O4 heterostructure increases by more than an order of magnitude the rate constant for the visible light photocatalytic process. We rationalise this in terms of the measured structure and electronic structure data of the binary and ternary combinations of the component materials and focus on details, which show that an optimised deposition sequence is vital for attaining high values of photocatalytic efficiency, because the charge…
Scattering and Depolarization in a Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal Cell
2008
An imaging polarimeter in transmission has been used to explore the effects of scatter and depolarization induced by a polymer dispersed liquid crystal cell. The experiment was carried out for three visible wavelengths. Both a directional and a scattered component can be distinguished in the light transmitted by this material. Whereas the directional component increased with voltage, the scattered portion decreased. This was a common behaviour for all three wavelengths. The polarimetric analysis revealed that the degree of polarization was also affected by changes in the voltage applied to the cell. Depolarization effects in the scattered component were usually high and decreased with volta…
Poor optical stability of molecular dyes when used as absorbers in water-based tissue-simulating phantoms
2019
Biomedical optical systems and models can be easily validated by the use of tissue-simulating phantoms. They can consist of water-based turbid media which often include inks (India ink and molecular dyes) as absorbers. Optical stability of commonly exploited inks under the influence of light, pH changes and the addition of TiO2 and surfactant, was studied. We found that the exposure to ultraviolet and visible light can crucially affect the absorption properties of molecular dyes. On average, absorption peaks decreased by 47.3% in 150 exposure hours. Furthermore, dilution can affect ink’s pH and by that, its decay rate under light exposure. When TiO2 was added to the phantoms, all molecular …

Demultiplexing Visible and Near-Infrared Information in Single-Sensor Multispectral Imaging
2016
In this paper, we study a single-sensor imaging system that uses a multispectral filter array to spectrally sample the scene. Our system captures information in both visible and near-infrared bands of the electromagnetic spectrum. Due to manufacturing limitations, the visible filters in this system also transmit the NIR radiation. Similarly, visible light is transmitted by the NIR filter, leading to inaccurate mixed spectral measurements. We present an algorithm that resolves this issue by separating NIR and visible information. Our method achieves this goal by exploiting the correlation of multispectral images in both spatial and spectral domains. Simulation results show that the mean squa…
Identification of markers that can be recognised using spectroscopic sensors and which reflect key stages in the cooking of meat and fish
2016
One of the purposes of the Opticook project is to install spectroscopic sensors in ovens, so equipping them with non intrusive tools allowing following cooking process of meat and fish. The hypothesis on which sensors were developed was: are muscular proteins proper probes to discriminate among several cooking degrees? Thus, at the beginning of the project several tools were used to characterise effect of several cooking degrees on macroscopic properties (texture and colour) of beef, chicken and cod fillet samples. Following, calorimetry and spectroscopic techniques were used to study transformations at molecular scale. In particular, visible spectroscopy followed denaturation of haemprotei…
Oligo(phenylenevinylene)s with increased electron affinity: 1,3,4-oxadiazoles in the main chain
2001
Stilbenoid chromophores and 2,5-diaryl-1,3,4-oxadiazoles are compounds with wide technical importance. Their intense fluorescence is used in szintillators and optical whiteners and their semiconducting properties makes them valuable emissive or electron conducting layers in organic light emitting diodes (OLED). The synthesis and the electronic spectra of soluble oligo(phenylenevinylene)s with 1,3,4-oxadiazoles in the main chain are presented. The Huisgen reaction of tetrazole-terminated stilbenoid compounds with aromatic acyl chlorides yields model compounds, isophthalic acid dichlorides lead to soluble polymers with well-defined conjugated segments, as can be seen in the electronic spectra…
