[EN] Development of renewable fuels from solar light appears as one of the main current challenges in energy science. A plethora of photocatalysts have been investigated to obtain hydrogen and oxygen from water and solar light in the last decades. Customized WO3 nanoplatelets as visible-light photoelectrocatalyst for the degradation of a recalcitrant model organic compound (methyl orange)

[EN] WO3 nanoplatelets have been synthesized by electrochemical anodization in acidic electrolytes containing two different complexing agents: fluorides and hydrogen peroxide. The influence of the morphology and size of these nanoplatelets on their photoelectrocatalytic performance has been studied following the degradation of a model organic recalcitrant compound, such as methyl orange (MO). The effect of several supporting electrolytes on this photodegradation process has also been checked. Strongly directional scattering from dielectric nanowires

It has been experimentally demonstrated only recently that a simultaneous excitation of interfering electric and magnetic resonances can lead to uni-directional scattering of visible light in zero-dimensional dielectric nanoparticles. We show both theoretically and experimentally, that strongly anisotropic scattering also occurs in individual dielectric nanowires. The effect occurs even under either pure transverse electric or pure transverse magnetic polarized normal illumination. This allows for instance to toggle the scattering direction by a simple rotation of the incident polarization. Ultraviolet-visible light-induced solarisation in silica-based optical fibres for indoor solar applications

Abstract The transmission performances of pure- and doped-silica (a-SiO2) optical fibres are compared during the exposure to a high-power broadband light source approximating the solar spectrum. From the Gaussian decomposition of the attenuation spectra, we found that Al- and P-doped fibres show a fast solarisation effect which leads to transmission degradation in the ultraviolet-visible range. Similarly, Ge-doped fibres undergo photoinduced colour-centre formation which, however, does not prevent visible-light propagation. Photoprotection and photoreception of intraocular lenses under xenon and white LED illumination.

Objective. To analyze the photoprotection and phototransmission that various intraocular lenses (10Ls) provide under the illumination of a xenon (Xe) lamp and white LEDs (light emitting diode). Methods. The spectral transmission curves of six representative 10Ls were measured using a Perkin-Elmer Lambda 35 UV/VIS spectrometer. Various filtering simulations were performed using a Xe lamp and white LEDs. The spectral emissions of these lamps were measured with an ILT-950 spectroradiometer. Results. Visible Light Generation and Its Influence to Supercontinuum in As2S3 Microstructured Fiber

We demonstrate visible light generation in As 2 S 3 microstructured fiber for the first time. It limits the spectral range of supercontinuum. The visible light generation can be avoided by designing the fiber for the single-mode operation.
