2021

The article deals with the activities of E.D.Onatsky (Onac’kyj) in the Kingdom of Italy in the early 30s of the XX century. The Ukrainian researcher, journalist and politician came to Italy as the head of the Press-office of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Italy. He carried out scientific, journalistic and politic activities in the interwar period. During this period, Italy changed its foreign strategy: it proposed a Pact of four, became one of the main political players in Europe, signed a cooperation agreement with the USSR. Inferni di ghiaccio: qualche nota sui "Kolymskie rasskazy" di V. T. Šalamov.

2009

2008

The main target of this essay is to compare three poems, Leonore (1774) by G.A. Bürger, Ljudmila (1808) by V.A. Žukovskij and Mcyri (1839) by M.Ju. Lermontov. The aim of this research is to point out the peculiar poetic use of a series of symbolic elements which the reader meets in each of these three works (the wind, the storm, the war, the divinity, the horse, the panther, the moon). On one hand the achievements of the analysis show how some of these symbols have been kept almost unchanged in the three poems. On the other hand the results have been stressed how some symbolic elements have been worked out by the poets, recreating and enriching them with different ideological values.

Carrying the Red Man's Burden: Pavel Luknitskii, or Kipling in the Soviet Pamir

2018

Kipling’s work in the Soviet Union was heavily criticized as an expression of imperialism; yet, it was widely read and translated – it was clearly more acceptable than that of Nikolai Gumilev, “the Kipling from Tsarskoe Selo”, a purported counter-revolutionary whose name itself was forbidden. This explains the apparent contradictions in the image of Pavel Luknitskii – from one side, a scholar of Gumilev, from the other, an official Soviet writer. His novel Nisso (1946), based on his travels in the Pamir, is a classic of Soviet literature about the Asian republics. The novel’s plot is built around a classic Colonial triangle, mixed with a typical Soviet collectivization story. The setting pu…
