Objective: To investigate in man the consequence on body composition and related biological and metabolic parameters of omitting or adding a meal. Research Methods and Procedures: Twenty-four young normal-weight male subjects were recruited, 12 usual four-meal and 12 usual three-meal eaters, differing only in the consumption of an afternoon meal. They omitted or added a fourth meal during a 28-day habituation period and were asked to report their intake on three 3-day occasions. Lomitapide affects HDL composition and function

Abstract Background Lomitapide reduces low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) but also high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. The latter may reduce the clinical efficacy of lomitapide. We investigated the effect of lomitapide on HDL-C levels and on cholesterol efflux capacity (CEC) of HDL in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH). Methods and results Four HoFH patients were treated with increasing dosages of lomitapide. Lomitapide decreased LDL-C (range −34 to −89%). Effect of daily intake of pomegranate juice on fecal microbiota and feces metabolites from healthy volunteers

In the early 19th century, William H. Wollaston impressed the Royal Society of London with engravings of portraits. He manipulated facial features, such as the nose, and thereby dramatically changed the perceived gaze direction, although the eye region with iris and eye socket had remained unaltered. This Wollaston illusion has been replicated numerous times but never with the original stimuli. We took the eyes (pupil and iris) from Wollaston’s most prominent engraving and measured their perceived gaze direction in an analog fashion. One reason why people prefer to watch movies in cinemas may be the surround of the movie screen or its physically huge size.
