Retinal light sensitivity of the central visual field among 70- to 81-year-old men and women.

Retinal light sensitivity of the central visual field (0-30 degrees), visual acuity, intraocular pressure and pupillary size were screened in 42 men and 42 women aged 70 to 81 years. The subjects were randomly selected from the population register. After excluding the diagnosed glaucoma cases, the men had better visual field light sensitivity values than the women. They also had lower intraocular pressure and a wider pupillary diameter than the women, whereas there were no differences in visual acuity between the sexes. Background The role of vascular risk factors in glaucoma is still being debated. To assess the importance of vascular risk factors in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), data from the medical history of 2,879 POAG patients and 973 age-matched controls were collected and analyzed. Photoreactive flow changes in the posterior cerebral artery in control subjects and patients with occipital lobe infarction.

Background and Purpose Photoreactive flow changes of the posterior cerebral artery (PCA) in control subjects and patients with unilateral occipital lobe infarction were investigated to study the hypothesis that occipital lobe infarction of varying extent leads to a reduced visually activated flow increase in the ipsilateral PCA. Methods Maximum mean flow velocity (MFV) of the PCA was investigated by transcranial Doppler sonography after photic stimulation of the retina. Subretinal neovascularization in anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.

A 66-year-old man with typical anterior ischemic optic neuropathy in one eye suffered from edema of the optic disc without functional changes in the fellow eye. However, 7 months later, a reduction in visual acuity, a change in the visual field and a worsening of the contrast-sensitivity curve demonstrated the development of typical anterior ischemic optic neuropathy in this eye as well. Tocilizumab as first treatment option in optic neuropathy secondary to Graves' orbitopathy.

Dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON) is one of the complications that can affect Graves' orbitopathy (GO) patients. Its prevalence is estimated at less than 5%. It is usually treated with intravenous steroids, radiotherapy or orbital decompression. Tocilizumab has been proposed as a treatment option in cases of GO refractory to steroid treatment, with good clinical results. Our aim is to report the case of a patient with optic neuropathy secondary to GO treated with tocilizumab as primary treatment option.
