Visual function comparison of 2 aspheric multifocal intraocular lenses
2011
To compare visual function after bilateral implantation of the multifocal Lentis Mplus LS-312 with a nonrotational symmetrical design (copolymer aspheric) or the Acrysof Restor SN6AD1 +3.0 D (hybrid aspheric) intraocular lens (IOL).Fernández-Vega Ophthalmological Institute, Oviedo, Spain.Comparative case series.Six months postoperatively, corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), distance-corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA), the defocus curve, and photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity with and without glare were measured. The mean CDVA was 0.02 ± 0.06 (SD) with the copolymer aspheric IOL and -0.06 ± 0.05 logMAR with the hybrid aspheric IOL (P=.07) and the mean DCNVA, 0.10 ± 0.06 and -0.0…
Effect of Varying Levels of Glare on Contrast Sensitivity Measurements of Young Healthy Individuals Under Photopic and Mesopic Vision
2018
Contrast sensitivity (CS), the ability to detect small spatial changes of luminance, is a fundamental aspect of vision. However, while visual acuity is commonly measured in eye clinics, CS is often not assessed. At issue is that tests of CS are not highly standardized in the field and that, in many cases, optotypes used are not sensitive enough to measure graduations of performance and visual abilities within the normal range. Here, in order to develop more sensitive measures of CS, we examined how CS is affected by different combinations of glare and ambient lighting in young healthy participants. We found that low levels of glare have a relatively small impact on vision under both photopi…
Neurophysiological evaluation of visual function in iRBD: potential role in stratifying RBD conversion risk.
2021
Abstract Study objectives To evaluate neurophysiological alterations of visual function in idiopathic REM sleep Behavior Disorder (iRBD) both as markers and predictors of neurodegenerative disorders. Methods In a longitudinal follow-up study of 46 consecutive iRBD patients (follow-up duration 8.4 ± 3.4 years), the baseline parameters in luminance-contrast pattern (VEPp), red-green color (VEPc) and motion-onset (VEPm) Visual Evoked Potentials in iRBD were compared to early (ePD) and advanced (aPD) Parkinson's Disease subjects. Parameters of latency and amplitude of iRBD converters to neurodegenerative disease were compared with those of the non-converters. Results The VEP P100 mean latency v…
Visual Function after Implantation of a Presbyopia-Correcting Trifocal Intraocular Lens
2019
<b><i>Purpose:</i></b> To evaluate distance, intermediate, and near visual performance in patients implanted with a trifocal aspheric presbyopia-correcting intraocular lens (IOL). <b><i>Methods:</i></b> Forty patients were bilaterally implanted with the AcrySofIQ PanOptix IOL after femtosecond laser-assisted lens surgery. Binocular best corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) (4 m), best distance-corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA) (40 and 30 cm), best corrected distance intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA) (70, 60, and 50 cm), binocular distance contrast sensitivity under photopic conditions (85 cd/m2), and defocus curve…
Pilot Study on Visual Function and Fundus Autofluorescence Assessment in Diabetic Patients.
2015
Purpose. Evaluate optimized fundus autofluorescence (FAF) imaging in early stages of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and relate findings with conventional colour fundus imaging and visual function in diabetic patients and control subjects.Materials and Methods. FAF and colour images were obtained using the CR-2 Plus digital nonmydriatic retinal camera in seven diabetic patients and thirteen control subjects. Visual-Functioning Questionnaire-25 (VFQ-25) and Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ) were used to assess the quality of life and diabetes self-care. Contrast sensitivity function (CSF) was evaluated with the Vistech 6500 chart.Results. FAF and optimized-FAF imaging showed more retin…
