A Neural Solution for a Mobile Robot Navigation into Unknown Indoor Environments Using Visual Landmarks
1998
In this paper we present a neural solution for a mobile robot navigation into unknown indoor environments by using landmarks. Robot navigation task is implemented by two groups of processes based on MLP neural networks classifiers: a Low Level Vision System performs obstacle avoidance and corridor following, while an High Level Vision System extracts landmarks contents and performs goal directed navigation. A path-planner manages the two navigation systems and interacts with the robot hardware. The proposed solution is very strong and flexible and can be used to drive a mobile robot in real indoor environments. In the paper experimental results are also reported.
Why Cortices? Neural Networks for Visual Information Processing
1989
Neural networks for the processing of sensory information show remarkable similarities between different species and across different sensory modalities. As an example, cortical organization found in the mamalian neopallium and in the optic tecta of most vertebrates appears to be equally appropriate as a substrate for visual, auditory, and somatosensory information processing. In this paper, we formulate three structural principles of the vertebrate visual cortex that allow to analyze structure and function of these neural networks on an intermediate level of complexity. Computational applications are taken from the field of early vision. The proposed principles are: (a) Average anatomy, i …
Clustering Quality and Topology Preservation in Fast Learning SOMs
2008
The Self-Organizing Map (SOM) is a popular unsupervised neural network able to provide effective clustering and data visualization for data represented in multidimensional input spaces. In this paper, we describe Fast Learning SOM (FLSOM) which adopts a learning algorithm that improves the performance of the standard SOM with respect to the convergence time in the training phase. We show that FLSOM also improves the quality of the map by providing better clustering quality and topology preservation of multidimensional input data. Several tests have been carried out on different multidimensional datasets, which demonstrate better performances of the algorithm in comparison with the original …

¿Prudencia o Sabiduría? Sinonimia e interacción visual
2020
Emerging brominated flame retardants and dechlorane-related compounds in European eels (Anguilla anguilla) from Latvian lakes
2017
Abstract Fifteen halogenated flame retardants (HFRs) including seven emerging brominated flame retardants (EBFRs) and eight dechlorane-related compounds (DRCs) were analyzed in eels (Anguilla anguilla) sampled from five Latvian lakes. Out of the seven EBFRs, hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) and decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE) were found in eels in quantifiable concentrations, up to 6.58 and 33.0 ng g−1 lipid weight (l.w.), respectively. The mean total concentration of DRCs (∑DRC) in the samples was 0.62 ng g−1 l.w. and the geographical distribution of DRC contamination was nearly uniform among the selected lakes. Dechlorane 602 (Dec 602) was the predominant component, whereas the composition …
3D Matrix-Based Visualization System of Association Rules
2017
With the growing number of mining datasets, it becomes increasingly difficult to explore interesting rules because of the large number of resultant and its nature complexity. Studies on human perception and intuition show that graphical representation could be a better illustration of how to seek information from the data using the capabilities of human visual system. In this work, we present and implement a 3D matrix-based approach visualization system of association rules. The main visual representation applies the extended matrix-based approach with rule-to-items mapping to general transaction data set. A novel method merging rules and assigning weight is proposed in order to reduce the …
Audio-visual transmedi…
Inferences of dietary preferences of Miocene squirrels (Xerinae, Sciuridae) from the Iberian Peninsula and Namibia using microwear analyses and ename…
2020
In this work, we compared microwear features and enamel thickness from upper molars (M1 and M2) of extinct Xerinae squirrels from the Miocene of Namibia (Vulcanisciurus sp) and the Iberian Peninsula (Atlantoxerus nov. sp. and Heteroxerus rubricati). We also examined the microwear from young and adult specimens of one extant squirrel, Atlantoxerus getulus, to compare it with the extinct species. Both, the microwear features and enamel thickness showed that the Miocene African species presented a more abrasive diet than the Iberian ones.
