Effect of silane coupling treatment on the adhesion between polyamide and epoxy based composites reinforced with carbon fibers
2020
The increasing efforts aimed to design structures with reduced weight and better mechanical performances has led in recent years to a growing use of fiber reinforced polymer materials in several fields such as marine. However, these materials can be composed of chemically very different elements and, hence, may be difficult to joint. This research aims to improve the adhesion between a thermoplastic matrix of polyamide reinforced with short carbon fibers (PA12-CR) and a carbon fiber reinforced epoxy matrix (CFRP). Two different silane coupling agents, (3-Aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (AM) and (3-Glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane (EP), were applied, through the spray deposition method, on th…
Heterostructured metal oxides-ZnO nanorods films prepared by SPPS route for photodegradation applications
2019
Abstract This work presents the first preparation using the Solution Precursor Plasma Spray process of heterostructured films associating ZnO nanorods (NRs) and various metal oxides (CuO, Fe2O3 and Co3O4) by Solution Precursor Plasma Spray process. These CuO/ZnO, Fe2O3/ZnO and Co3O4/ZnO films exhibit hierarchically chocolate sticks-like, dandelion-like or chrysanthemum-like surface morphologies. These heterostructures were confirmed by SEM, XRD, EDS and Raman analyses. The bandgaps of heterostructured films are narrower than that of pure ZnO. The CuO/ZnO film exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity both under UV and visible light irradiation for the degradation of the Orange II dye due…
Nonionic Aliphatic Polycarbonate Diblock Copolymers Based on CO2, 1,2-Butylene Oxide, and mPEG: Synthesis, Micellization, and Solubilization
2019
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a renewable carbon source that is easily available in high purity and is utilized as a co-monomer in the direct ring-opening polymerization of epoxides to obtain aliphatic polycarbonates. In this work, degradable aliphatic polycarbonate diblock copolymers (mPEG- b-PBC) are synthesized via catalytic copolymerization of CO2 and 1,2-butylene oxide, starting from monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG) as a chain transfer reagent. The polymerization proceeds at low temperatures and high CO2 pressure, utilizing the established binary catalytic system ( R, R)-Co(salen)Cl/[PPN]Cl. Amphiphilic nonionic diblock copolymers with varying PBC block lengths and hydrophilic-lipoph…
Gas Barrier, Rheological and Mechanical Properties of Immiscible Natural Rubber/Acrylonitrile Butadiene Rubber/Organoclay (NR/NBR/Organoclay) Blend N…
2020
In this paper, gas permeability studies were performed on materials based on natural rubber/acrylonitrile butadiene rubber blends and nanoclay incorporated blend systems. The properties of natural rubber (NR)/nitrile rubber (NBR)/nanoclay nanocomposites, with a particular focus on gas permeability, are presented. The measurements of the barrier properties were assessed using two different gases—O2 and CO2—by taking in account the blend composition, the filler loading and the nature of the gas molecules. The obtained data showed that the permeability of gas transport was strongly affected by: (i) the blend composition—it was observed that the increase in acrylonitrile butadiene rubber compon…
Bond strength and adhesive interfacial micromorphology of self-adhesive resin cements : effect of reduced times of pre-etching
2019
Background Although acid-etching could increase enamel bond strength of self-adhesive (SA) cements, it may lead to negative effect on dentin. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of shortening of phosphoric acid pre-etching duration on enamel/ dentin shear bond strength (SBS) and interfacial microstructure of Panavia SA Luting Plus (PASA) and Bifix SE (BXSE). Material and Methods For both enamel and dentin, effect of pre-etching time was significant (p<0.001); however, effect of cement brand and the interaction of two factors was significant only for dentin (p≤0.008). Three pre-etching times increased SBS of both cements to enamel and BXSE to dentin. In case of dentin SBS of PASA,…
Towards higher zT in early transition metal oxides: optimizing the charge carrier concentration of the WO3-x compounds
2018
Abstract Thermoelectric devices are believed to play an important role in the energy research for the next decades. Thanks to their low costs coupled with high stability and sustainability, metal oxides are very promising materials even if their efficiencies still need improvements to ensure a wide applicability. Slightly reduced early transition metal oxides show intrinsic defects in the crystal structure which guarantee very low values of the thermal conductivity. The challenge to fulfil the “phonon-glass electron-crystal” concept is to decouple the optimization of the electronic properties from the thermal transport properties. In this contribution we report the optimization of the charg…

Experimental design of the bearing performances of flax fiber reinforced epoxy composites by a failure map
2018
Abstract This paper represents the first effort aimed to the investigation of the pin/hole contact stress and failure mechanisms of epoxy composites reinforced with woven flax fabrics, underwent to tensile bearing tests. In particular, the maximum loads and failure modes are evaluated at varying the laminate geometrical configuration. In order to optimize the use of polymer composites reinforced with flax fibers in structural applications, an experimental failure map, identifying main failure modes of mechanically fastened joints, is obtained as function of hole diameter, distance of the hole from the free edge of the laminate and laminate width. Moreover, a theoretical approach based on th…
A new hyperelastic model for anisotropic hyperelastic materials with one fiber family
2016
International audience; The main goal of this study is to propose a practical application of a new family of transverse anisotropic invariants by designing a strain energy function (SEF) for incompressible fiber-reinforced materials. In order to validate the usability and creativeness of the proposed model, two different fiber-reinforced rubber materials under uniaxial and shear testing are considered. For each kind of material, numerical simulations based on the proposed model are consistent with experimental results and provide information about the effect of the new family of invariants in the construction of the SEF.
