The effect of a liquid CTBN rubber modifier on the thermo-kinetic parameters of an epoxy resin during a pultrusion process

Abstract Rheo-kinetic behaviour of an epoxy resin, coupled with an anhydride hardener, with different CTBN liquid rubber concentration (0–15 phr), used in fibre reinforced plastics, was analysed comparing experimental data with theoretical models. The modelling of technological pultrusion process for thermoset matrix composites, developed through a numerical code realised with MATLAB, is reported, too. The model includes conduction and cure heat, degree of cure and viscosity evolution during the curing within the die. CATALYTIC OXIDE COATINGS ON CERAMIC SUPPORTS.

Thin porous oxide coatings composed of Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and ZrO2, respectively, on ceramic carriers have been produced by either a wash-coat procedure or by liquid coating followed by solidification. By dehydration and calcination of the supported ceramics the pore texture was stabilised. The thickness of the layer, its homogeneity, specific surface area, porosity and pore volume distribution have been shown to be controlled by the properties of the oxides deposited, and by the conditions of the coating procedures. Epoxy composites filled with high surface area-carbon fillers

Recent seismic events, all over the world, demonstrated that masonry constructions are prone to brittle collapses when shear or compression capacity is reached. It is clear that, in many real cases, masonry columns need to be strengthened for enhancing their load-carrying capacity and to develop a more ductile response. The Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRPs) confinement of masonry columns is a well-known technique that may produce these advantages. Alginate gel beads filled with halloysite nanotubes

Abstract Novel hybrid gel beads with a well defined and controlled size formed by alginate biopolymer and halloysite (Hal) nanotubes were designed, prepared and characterized from the physico-chemical viewpoint. The thermogravimetry made it possible to determine the water content, the total as well as the local compositions of Hal into the gel beads. Dielectric spectroscopy evidenced that Hal reduced the fluctuation of ions. The SEM micrographs showed that the dried beads exhibit a rough surface, with pores in the micrometer range. Evolution of the structural and optical properties from cobalt cordierite glass to glass-ceramic based on spinel crystalline phase materials

Co 2+ -containing cordierite stoichiometric glasses have been prepared by melting colloidal gel precursors. After controlled thermal processing in the range of temperatures between 900 and 1300 C different polycrystalline, almost single phase materials displaying l-, a-, and b-cordierite crystalline forms were synthesized. In addition, spinel glass-ceramic materials were also prepared from the base glasses. All these materials were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. Degree of conversion and microhardness of resin cements photoactivated through glass ceramic

Background To assess whether glass-ceramic shade, thickness and translucency affect degree of conversion (DC) and Knoop microhardness (KHN) of resin cements photoactivated using light-emitting diode (LED) or quartz-tungsten-halogen (QTH) units. Material and Methods Glass-ceramic blocks were cut (2, 3 and 4mm) and sintered. For DC FT Raman spectroscopy (n=3), film specimens of cements (RelyX ARC, U200, Veneer, C&B) were obtained.
