Adoption of practices of environmental sustainability in viticulture: first suggestions from Canton of Ticino
2018
The paper investigates the practices of environmental sustainability implemented in viticulture to minimize the negative impact of agricultural operations on the environment. Through the use of an electronic questionnaire, developed on a theoretical approach based on the Stakeholders Theory and the Theory of Planned Behaviour, and sent to a sample of wineries of the Canton of Ticino, the research pursues a triple aim: (i) to understand which are the main practices and initiatives of environmental sustainability adopted at firm level; (ii) to identify the main stakeholders that affect the choices of managers and owners to orient the firms towards the adoption of practices aimed at greater en…
Analysis of the energetic flows through the sebal application to the assessment of the actual evapotranspiration in a Napa Valley vineyard California…
2009
The use of water resources is constantly growing in agriculture industry and the reduction of the this resource is due by both anthropogenic and climate factors. Under this perspective it is necessary to develop monitoring systems able to forecast the consumption of water. The knowledge of the actual water demand of a crop is therefore strategic for the rational use of resources and to improve the quality of the crop production. Recent applications of remote sensing in agriculture provide a valuable contribution to release this purpose, besides the integration of remotely sensed data with measures retrieved by meteorological stations allows the development of models able to estimate the act…

Using the ARP-03 for high-resolution mapping of calcic horizons
2013
A b s t r a c t. The aim of this work is to present a fast and cheap method for high-resolution mapping of calcic horizons in vineyards based on geoelectrical proximal sensing. The study area, 45 ha located in southern Sicily (Italy), was characterized by an old, partially dismantled marine terrace and soils with a calcic horizon at different depths. The geoelectrical investigation consisted of a survey of the soil electrical resistivity recorded with the Automatic Resistivity Profiling-03 sensor. The electrical resistivity values at three pseudo-depths, 0-50, 0-100 and 0-170 cm, were spatialized by means of ordinary kriging. A principal component analysis of the three electrical resistivit…

La vigne dans le paysage rural gallo-romain
2012
On the relationship between some production parameters and a vegetation index in viticulture
2013
The use and timing of many agronomical practices such as the scheduling of irrigation and harvesting are dependent on accurate vineyard sampling of qualitative and productive parameters. Crop forecasting also depends on the representativeness of vineyard samples during the whole phenological period. This manuscript summarizes the last two years of precision viticulture in Sicily (Italy); agronomic campaigns were carried out in 2012 and 2013 within the "Tenute Rapitalà" and "Donnafugata" farms. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index derived from satellite images (RapidEye) acquired at berry set, pre-veraison and ripening phenological stages (occurred at June, July and August respectively) ha…
History of a Vineyard in Champagne: From Eighteenth to Twenty-First Century
2019
This contribution illustrates the history of the vineyard in Champagne in interaction with the invention of sparkling wines in an area of ancient viticulture. The socio-geographical configuration of this vineyard progressively changed, associating crises and expansions, at the end of which emerges in the twentieth century a vineyard very different from that existing in the early eighteenth century, when the sparkling wine was invented in the Champagne region. In the new Millennium, after the great crisis of the 2008–2009, the shipments of Champagne wines have remained stable overall for a decade, but only exports out of Europe have increased significantly. The sales of independent winemaker…
