This chapter reviews the appraisal theory of emotion and how it has been employed in human–computer interaction (HCI) research. This theory views emotion as a process that evaluates the subjective significance of an event. We demonstrate the usefulness of the perspective for HCI, as emotion is defined in terms of the events of the task environment and the goals and knowledge of the subject. Chatbots could allow individuals and organizations to accomplish objectives that are currently not fully optimized for collaboration across an intergenerational context. This paper explores the preferences of chatbots as a companion in intergenerational innovation. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on kuvata ja ymmärtää Suomen vanhimman ympäristöjärjestön, Suomen luonnonsuojeluliiton Facebook-viestintää sen aktiivisuuden, viestintäfunktioiden ja niiden aiheuttamien reaktioiden kautta. Tutkimuksessa käytettiin kahta aineistoa, Luonnonsuojeluliiton Facebook-tilapäivityksiä kommentteineen ja tykkäyksineen kuukauden ajalta vuosilta 2010 ja 2015. Samalla saatiin siis myös kuva siitä, miten Luonnonsuojeluliiton viestintä on tutkittavien seikkojen osalta muuttunut viidessä vuodessa. Tässä puheviestinnän pro gradu -tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin yhteiskunnallista aktiivisuutta kuntapoliittisessa Facebook-ryhmässä. Tutkielman tavoitteena oli kuvata ja ymmärtää ajankohtaisen ja aktiivisen kansalaisosallistumisen teknologisen muodon, kuntapoliittisen Facebook-ryhmän vuorovaikutuksen ominaispiirteitä. Tavoitteeseen pyrittiin kysymällä kuntapoliittisen Facebook-ryhmän jäseniltä, minkä takia vuorovaikutukseen osallistutaan ja miten.
