Abstract Minority language studies have received increasing attention over the last decade in Iran. Drawing on Spolsky’s (Spolsky, Bernard. 2004. Language policy. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press) language policy theoretical framework, this inquiry reports on the language ideologies, practices, and management efforts of an under-explored group of Kurdish families residing in the city of Kermanshah. Kieliresurssit ja niiden väliset suhteet Pajalan ja Pykeijän kielimaisemissa

Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa tarkastellaan Pajalan ja Pykeijän kylteissä esiintyvien kieliresurssien muodostamia kielimaisemia. Tavoitteena on selvittää, millaiset kielimaisemat kieliresurssien käytön perusteella Pajalaan ja Pykeijään muodostuu. Lisäksi tutkielmassa selvitetään Pajalassa esiintyvistä vähemmistökielistä meänkielen ja Pykeijässä kveenin kielen käyttöä kielimaisemissa. Vähemmistökielten kohdalla tarkastellaan niiden asemaa ja suhdetta muihin kielimaisemissa käytettyihin resursseihin nähden. Despite the high number of recognised Indigenous groups who are struggling to maintain their languages, cultures, and identities in Russia, there is little research done on the matters of cultural and linguistic revitalisation. This study sought to address this gap by exploring the views of two Indigenous groups, Karelian and Mari, on the development of their Indigenous languages and educational strategies to protect and revive their languages. The study relied on in-depth one-on-one interviews with 20 participants, ten from each Indigenous group. Romanikieli on mainittu Unescon maailman uhanalaisten kielten luettelossa. Romanien lukumääräksi on maailmanlaajuisesti arvioitu noin 20 miljoonaa, joista romanikieltä puhuu noin 10 miljoonaa ihmistä. Kieltä ei kuitenkaan opeteta kouluissa kovinkaan monessa maassa. Se siirtyy pääasiassa puhuttuna äidinkielenä vanhemmilta lapsille – tai jää siirtymättä, jolloin on vaarassa, että sen osaaminen katoaa. Romanikielen elvyttäminen vaatii konkreettisia toimenpiteitä, yhteistyötä ja uskoa demokraattiseen ajattelutapaan sekä asenteeseen.
