Figure S3 from Species' ecological functionality alters the outcome of fish stocking success predicted by a food-web model

2018

Changes in the adult perch biomasses in response to perch stocking (Wht300+Per50 [red]; Wht300+Per25 [pink]; Wht300+Per75 [orange]) compared to the increased whitefish stocking (Wht300 [black]). Dashed lines indicate the time point when fishing was introduced to the simulations.

Supplementary tables and figures from Detection of Allee effects in marine fishes: analytical biases generated by data availability and model selecti…

2017

The demographic Allee effect, or depensation, implies positive association between per capita population growth rate and population size at low abundances, thereby lowering growth ability of sparse populations. This can have far-reaching consequences on population recovery ability and colonization success. In the context of marine fishes, there is a widespread perception that Allee effects are rare or non-existent. However, studies that have failed to detect Allee effects in marine fishes have suffered from several fundamental methodological and data limitations. In the present study, we challenge the prevailing perception about the rarity of Allee effects by analysing nine populations of A…

Additional file 1: of KIAA0556 is a novel ciliary basal body component mutated in Joubert syndrome

2015

The phylogenetic distribution and sequence conservation of KIAA0556 orthologs in eukaryotes. Presence and sequence conservation of KIAA0556 are projected on the eukaryotic species tree to visualise the phylogenetic distribution of KIAA0556 orthologues as well as the distribution of the triple-repeat and quadruple-repeat configurations of the DUF4457 domains of unknown function. The black circles and white circles indicate which eukaryotic species contain or lack cilia/flagella. Recent KIAA0556 duplicates in Branchiostoma floridae and Paramecium tetraurelia are denoted by x2. *Dictyostelium discoideum protein sequence contains many â Nâ s (uncalled bases) in the N-terminal part of the sequen…

Supplementary methods, figures, tables and information from Use of nursery areas by the extinct megatooth shark Otodus megalodon (Chondrichthyes: Lam…

2020

Nursery areas are fundamental for the success of many marine species, particularly for large, slow-growing taxa with low fecundity and high age of maturity. Here, we examine the population size-class structure of the extinct gigantic shark Otodus megalodon in a newly described middle Miocene locality from Northeastern Spain, as well as in eight previously known formations (Temblor, Calvert, Pisco, Gatun, Chucunaque, Bahía Inglesa, Yorktown and Bone Valley). In all cases, body lengths of all individuals were inferred from dental parameters and the size-class structure was estimated from Kernel probability density functions and Gaussian mixture models. Our analyses support the presence of fiv…

One-dimensional compression and consolidation of shales

2016

This paper presents a comprehensive methodology for analysing the compression and consolidation behaviour of shales. An apparatus was designed to perform oedometric high-pressure tests by applying a maximum vertical total stress of 100 MPa and simultaneously controlling the pore water pressure of the specimen. An analytical method was formulated to analyse the shale consolidation behaviour, which allows information to be gathered on the coefficient of consolidation, stiffness, poroelastic properties, secondary compression and permeability of the tested material as a function of the applied stress conditions. Results obtained on Opalinus Clay shale using the developed methodology are present…

Substituted Dibenzothiophenes I: Synthesis, Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry and Structure Elucidation by1H NMR Spectroscopy

1992

Abstract Some polychlorinated and polymethylated dibenzothiophenes have been synthesized to serve as model compounds in environmental analysis. In order to obtain pure isomers, the synthesis mixtures have been fractionated with reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography. In spite of a high sensitivity, mass spectrometry does not provide any reliable way to determine the precise structures of different isomers. Therefore, 1H NMR spectroscopy has been utilized as an aid in their analysis. The structures for two isomeric tetramethyldibenzothiophenes could be suggested on the basis of their 1H NMR spectra. Also some proposals for possible structures of two isomeric trimethyldibenzoth…
