AMADEUS-The acoustic neutrino detection test system of the ANTARES deep-sea neutrino telescope

The AMADEUS (ANTARES Modules for the Acoustic Detection Under the Sea) system which is described in this article aims at the investigation of techniques for acoustic detection of neutrinos in the deep sea. It is integrated into the ANTARES neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea. Its acoustic sensors, installed at water depths between 2050 and 2300 m, employ piezo-electric elements for the broad-band recording of signals with frequencies ranging up to 125 kHz. The typical sensitivity of the sensors is around - 145 dB re 1 V/mu Pa (including preamplifier). Far-Field Optical Control of a Movable Subdiffraction Light Grid

International audience; We demonstrate experimentally a subdiffraction light pattern, with a period down to 150 nm, at the surface of an optimized silicon nanostructured thin film. We show, using near-field and far-field characterization, that this subdiffraction pattern can be translated and rotated just by changing the illumination angle. The movable high frequency light pattern paves the way for subdiffraction resolution surface imaging microscopy without scanning near-field probes.

Optimization of a polarization imaging system for 3D measurements of transparent objects

This paper presents a multispectral imaging system for 3D reconstruction of transparent objects based on "shape from polarization" technique. The originality of this work relies on a multispectral active lighting system which enables to cope with the two ambiguities on the zenith angle and azimuth angle. A calibration step allows optimising the polarimetric measurements. Example of a reconstructed transparent object is presented.

Remote photoplethysmography for skin perfusion monitoring using narrowband illumination

The purpose of this study was to determine potential of remote photoplethysmography for skin perfusion monitoring, using 540 nm narrowband and 530 nm broadband illuminations. The alterations of cutaneous circulation were produced by topical skin heating protocol. The setup comprises of 530 nm LED light source and two identical cameras operated simultaneously: one equipped with narrowband optical filter (CWL=540nm), and another without filter. Results demonstrate the typical heating test response curve- comprising first peak, nadir and plato phase, which were significantly different in narrowband and broadband illumination. Determination of a pre-heating sequence for the DONES Target Assembly

Spin up and phase fluctuations in the timing of the accreting millisecond pulsar XTE J1807-294

We performed a timing analysis of the 2003 outburst of the accreting X-ray millisecond pulsar XTE J1807-294 observed by RXTE. Using recently refined orbital parameters we report for the first time a precise estimate of the spin frequency and of the spin frequency derivative. The phase delays of the pulse profile show a strong erratic behavior superposed to what appears as a global spin-up trend. The erratic behavior of the pulse phases is strongly related to rapid variations of the light curve, making it very difficult to fit these phase delays with a simple law. Timing of the accreting millisecond pulsar IGR~J17511--3057

Precise determination of orbital parameters in system with slowly drifting phases: application to the case of XTE J1807-294

We describe a timing technique that allows to obtain precise orbital parameters of an accreting millisecond pulsar in those cases in which intrinsic variations of the phase delays (caused e.g. by proper variation of the spin frequency) with characteristic timescale longer than the orbital period do not allow to fit the orbital parameters over a long observation (tens of days). We show under which conditions this method can be applied and show the results obtained applying this method to the 2003 outburst observed by RXTE of the accreting millisecond pulsar XTE J1807-294 which shows in its phase delays a non-negligible erratic behavior. The application of the photoacoustic transmittance oscillations for determining elastic constants in gallium and indium selenides

Transmittance periodic oscillations are observed in GaSe and InSe on excitation with optical pulses. Such oscillations are explained in terms of photoacoustic generation of dilatational waves, which become resonant within the crystal. Spectral analysis of those oscillations in samples of different thickness has led to an accurate determination of the longitudinal acoustic‐wave velocity along the crystallographic axis c. From Fredholm and Wronskian representations to rational solutions to the KPI equation depending on 2N − 2 parameters

International audience; We have already constructed solutions to the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation (KPI) in terms of Fredholm determinants and wronskians of order 2N. These solutions have been called solutions of order N and they depend on 2N −1 parameters. We construct here N-order rational solutions. We prove that they can be written as a quotient of 2 polynomials of degree 2N(N +1) in x, y and t depending on 2N−2 parameters. We explicitly construct the expressions of the rational solutions of order 4 depending on 6 real parameters and we study the patterns of their modulus in the plane (x, y) and their evolution according to time and parameters a1, a2, a3, b1, b2, b3.
