Two Remarkably Luminous Galaxy Candidates at z ≈ 10-12 Revealed by JWST

2022

The first few 100 Myr at z > 10 mark the last major uncharted epoch in the history of the universe, where only a single galaxy (GN-z11 at z ≈ 11) is currently spectroscopically confirmed. Here we present a search for luminous z > 10 galaxies with JWST/NIRCam photometry spanning ≈1–5 μm and covering 49 arcmin2 from the public JWST Early Release Science programs (CEERS and GLASS). Our most secure candidates are two MUV ≈ −21 systems: GLASS-z12 and GLASS-z10. These galaxies display abrupt ≳1.8 mag breaks in their spectral energy distributions (SEDs), consistent with complete absorption of flux bluewards of Lyα that is redshifted to =+z12.40.3 0.1and=+z10.40.5 0.4. Hiding in plain sight: observing planet-starspot crossings with the James Webb Space Telescope

2021

Transiting exoplanets orbiting active stars frequently occult starspots and faculae on the visible stellar disc. Such occultations are often rejected from spectrophotometric transits, as it is assumed they do not contain relevant information for the study of exoplanet atmopsheres. However, they can provide useful constraints to retrieve the temperature of active features and their effect on transmission spectra. We analyse the capabilities of the James Webb Space Telescope in the determination of the spectra of occulted starspots, despite its lack of optical wavelength instruments on board. Focusing on K and M spectral types, we simulate starspots with different temperatures and in differen…

The inconspicuous penis in children

2015

The term 'inconspicuous penis' refers to a group of anatomical abnormalities in which the penis looks smaller than is expected. Micropenis can be defined as 'true micropenis' - which results from a defect in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis - and 'micropenis secondary to congenital anatomical anomalies of the surrounding and overlying structures' - also known as 'concealed penis'. The different forms of concealed penis include webbed penis, congenital megaprepuce and partially hidden penis caused by prepubic adiposity. This disorder can also have iatrogenic causes resulting from adhesions that are secondary to circumcision - this type of concealed penis is known as 'trapped penis'. H…

In rete la cucina è politica. Alcuni modelli di analisi e uno studio di caso.

2013

First report of Antigastra catalaunalis on sesame in Greece.

2017

2010

Tutkielman tarkoitus on selvittää mahdollisia eroja luonnonsuojelujärjestö WWF:n Norjan, Ruotsin ja Tanskan Internet-sivuilla. WWF on tunnettu kansainvälisestä työstään mm. pandojen ja tiikereiden suojelijana, joten otin asiaksi selvittää millä tavalla järjestön skandinaavisilla sivuilla näkyy oman kotimaan luonnonsuojelu. Materiaalina olivat näiden kolmen maan kotisivut lähes kokonaisuudessaan. Metodina käytin tekstianalyysia, joka pohjautuu systeemis-funktionaalisen kielioppiteoriaan, keskittyen kirjoittajan ja lukijan väliseen vuorovaikutukseen eli interpersonaaliseen metafunktioon, mm. heidän väliseen suhteeseensa, argumentaatioon ja tekstin modaliteettiin. Tutkimus sisältää myös kvanti…

A girl with inverted triplication of chromosome 3q25.3 → q29 and multiple congenital anomalies consistent with 3q duplication syndrome

2005

We report a newborn girl with intrachromosomal triplication of 3q25.3 --> q29 (mosaicism) who died at the age of 3.5 weeks due to her malformations. She demonstrated disproportionate short stature with short limbs, a prominent and hairy forehead, thick eyebrows, synophrys, small upturned nose, full cheeks, micrognathia, and low set malformed and posteriorly rotated ears, short and webbed neck, hydrocephalus, Dandy-Walker malformation, spina bifida, complex heart defect (ventricular and atrial septal defect, malrotation, and interrupted aortic arch), omphalocele, polycystic kidneys, postaxial polydactyly of left hand, and generalized hirsutism; all signs have been associated with the dup(3q)…

Studies on the Sicilian populations ofAnacolia webbii(Mont.) Schimp. (Bartramiaceae, Bryophyta), rare moss in Europe

2014

New data on the distribution, biology, intra- and inter-population variability and conservation state of Sicilian populations of Anacolia webbii are provided. Two new localities are reported, so that total five fragmented populations occur in the island, all of them in a rather small area in the western part of the province of Palermo. They live on wet limestone or sandstone cliffs with base at 900–1200 m a.s.l. and N, N-NE aspect, within communities of Aceri campestris-Querco-ilicis sigmetum. The plants are particularly vigorous, but some data suggest a condition of vulnerability of the populations. In fact, in addition to specificity to a rare habitat on the island, a morphometric and all…
