Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate whether nandrolone decanoate (ND) use affects testosterone production and testicular morphology in a model of trained and sedentary mice. A group of mice underwent endurance training while another set led a sedentary lifestyle and were freely mobile within cages. The cystine/glutamate exchanger (antiporter x c − ) is a membrane transporter involved in the uptake of cystine, the rate-limiting amino acid in the synthesis of glutathione. Recent studies suggest that the antiporter plays a role in the slow oxidative excitotoxity and in the pathological effects of β-N-oxalylamino-l-alanine, the molecule responsible for neurolathyrism, a neurotoxic upper motor neuron disease. Background and purpose. It has been shown that the reversed operation of glutamate transporters when ATP levels fall accounts for most glutamate release induced by severe cerebral ischemia. Nitric oxide (NO) is formed after ischemia and causes ATP depletion. Our purpose is to test if NO release from inducible NO synthase (iNOS) after stroke may cause a delayed glutamate release due to ATP depletion that might underlie progression of the ischemic infarct. The Immune Checkpoint Molecule CD200 Is Associated with Tumor Grading and Metastasis in Bladder Cancer.

BACKGROUND We examined the expression of CD200, a ligand of immune tolerance, in transitional cell carcinoma of the human bladder (TCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS CD200 was analyzed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) in 90 patients with suspected TCC lesions of the bladder. Expression of CD200 was exemplarily validated by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis. RESULTS CD200 was detectable at mRNA and protein levels in TCC homogenate and TCC cell lines (T24, UMUC3).
