AbstractAssays measuring platelet aggregation (thrombus formation) at arterial shear rate mostly use collagen as only platelet-adhesive surface. Here we report a multi-surface and multi-parameter flow assay to characterize thrombus formation in whole blood from healthy subjects and patients with platelet function deficiencies. A systematic comparison is made of 52 adhesive surfaces with components activating the main platelet-adhesive receptors, and of eight output parameters reflecting distinct stages of thrombus formation. Three types of thrombus formation can be identified with a predicted hierarchy of the following receptors: glycoprotein (GP)VI, C-type lectin-like receptor-2 (CLEC-2)&g…
Immune-inflammatory markers and arterial stiffness indexes in subjects with acute ischemic stroke with and without metabolic syndrome.
2014
Objective: The aim of our study was to evaluate the associations between arterial stiffness indexes and immune-inflammatory markers in subjects with acute ischemic stroke with and without metabolic syndrome. Materials/Methods: We enrolled 130 patients with acute ischemic stroke and metabolic syndrome, 127 patients with acute ischemic stroke without metabolic syndrome and 120 control subjects without acute stroke. Applanation tonometry was used to record the augmentation index (Aix) and pulse wave velocity (PWV). We also evaluated plasma levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), Interleukin-1beta (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and Interleukin-10 (IL-10), E-selec…
Half-width plots, a simple tool to predict peak shape, reveal column kinetics and characterise chromatographic columns in liquid chromatography: Stat…
2013
Peak profiles in chromatography are characterised by their height, position, width and asymmetry; the two latter depend on the values of the left and right peak half-widths. Simple correlations have been found between the peak half-widths and the retention times. The representation of such correlations has been called half-width plots. For isocratic elution, the plots are parabolic, although often, the parabolas can be approximated to straight-lines. The plots can be obtained with the half-widths/retention time data for a set of solutes experiencing the same kinetics, eluted with a mobile phase at fixed or varying composition. When the analysed solutes experience different resistance to mas…
Landowners’ willingness to promote bioenergy production on wasteland − future impact on land use of cutaway peatlands
2017
Landowners are the key players in bioenergy production on wasteland; such as cutaway peatlands. In this study, the landowner's interest to use cutaway peatlands for bioenergy production was investigated using a survey and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) methods in an area in South Ostrobothnia, Finland. The focus was to identify which different bioenergy production chains are preferred by the respondents: combustion, gasification or biogas production from agriculture, energy-willow short-rotation forestry or forestry based energy crops. Also, the influence of personal environmental values on the selection was measured and the future impacts and barriers for the land use were assessed. …

Descriptive Evaluation of Age-Related Differences in Clinical Manifestation and Treatment of Von Willebrand's Disease in an Open-Label, Prospective, …
2012
Abstract Abstract 4630 Efficacy, tolerability and dosing of a VWF/FVIII concentrate may differ in paediatric, adults, and elderly patients. It is therefore reasonable to collect and evaluate clinical data of patients from different age groups and to look into differences in treatment and reason for treatment with VWF/FVIII concentrate. A cohort of 120 patients suffering from all types of von Willebrand's disease (VWD) from an on-going German post-marketing surveillance study was analysed for age-related differences in treatment with a high-purity, double virus inactivated VWF/FVIII concentrate (wilate®). Results: Thirteen children up to 12 years of age and 14 patients being 65 or older were…
Final Evaluation Of a Prospective, Non-Interventional Study On Efficacy and Tolerability Of a New Generation VWF/FVIII Concentrate In The Treatment O…
2013
Background With marketing authorization in 2005, a non-interventional study (SET = Surveillance of Efficacy and Tolerability) with a double virus inactivated VWF/FVIII concentrate (Wilate®) was initiated in Germany. In 2012, the inclusion of patient documentation was terminated for final evaluation of the study data, representing the treatment of 170 patients suffering from von Willebrand’s disease (VWD). Aim The presented study was performed to assess the haemostatic efficacy and safety of a newly introduced VWF/FVIII product in the treatment of all types of VWD patients in every day clinical setting and to validate the results from pivotal clinical trials. Methods Patients of any age suf…
La vida cotidiana de los vecinos de Manila a través de sus testamentos e inventarios de bienes
2019
With the general objective indicated in its title, this work tries to highlight relevant aspects in the continuity of the Spanish domain in the Philippines, dependent on the maintenance of the Spanish capital. The inevitable selection of topics has lead the preferences of this work towards the residents collaboration to defend the city, the conversion of many of them into traders of exotic products and singular slaves owners, and their collaboration to an incredible miscegenation due to the ethnic variety. On the other hand, to follow the footsteps of the first generation of residents in Manila, at the end of the 16th century and during the 17th century, this work gives us some information …

¿Tiene arraigo en el cerebro la libertad?
2017
