T9+HUD: Physical Keypad and HUD can Improve Driving Performance while Typing and Driving

We introduce T9+HUD, a text entry method designed to decrease visual distraction while driving and typing. T9+HUD combines a physical 3x4 keypad on the steering wheel with a head-up-display (HUD) for projecting output on the windshield. Previous work suggests this may be a visually less demanding way to type while driving than the popular case which requires shifts of visual attention away from the road. We present a prototype design and report first results from a controlled evaluation in a driving simulator. Sustainability Window is a new analysis tool for assessing the sustainability of development simultaneously in all of its three dimensions (environmental, economic, and social). The analysis method provides information of the maximum and minimum economic development that is required to maintain the direction of social and environmental development towards more sustainable targets. Computer aided scheduling and routing of vehicle-carrier fleet—a case study

This paper presents a case study of development of an information system for a large enterprise from vehicle-transport industry. A novel optimization model and algorithms developed to solve scheduling and routing of vehicle-carrier fleet are presented and discussed. Carried out qualitative experiments confirmed the usability of developed user-guided search paradigm and high performance of autonomous algorithmic solution search methods.

Despite an increasing development, the design of computerized documents is still based on intuitive or esthetics concerns, rather than on experimental evidence. However a large body of literature has investigated the effects of various display factors, both on a perceptual and on a cognitive level. We propose here a review of research and its implication on the design of computerized documents.

The article is a presentation of organ instruments found in Catholic churches and chapels in the Diocese of Gliwice. The first part of the article is a short description of the history of the diocese. The main part of the article is a list of organs in alphabetical order by place names and church names including 134 instruments. The last part of the article is a summary prepared based on a few criteria: the number of organs built in chronological order, the builders of the instruments and the technical and construction solutions used.

Although volcanic eruptions represent short periods in the whole history of a volcano, the large amount of loose pyroclastic material produced, combined with aeolian processes, can lead to continuous, long-lasting reworking of volcanic products. Driven by wind, these processes significantly influence the geomorphology and prolong the impacts of eruptions on exposed communities and ecosystems.
