Characterization of Acylating and Deacylating Activities of an Extracellular Phospholipase A2 in a Water-Restricted Environment

The behavior of porcine pancreatic phospholipase A2 (ppPLA2) in monophasic low-water media has been explored, for the first time, in a systematic manner. It has been investigated how a number of variables can modulate both acylating and deacylating activities of the enzyme, and several interesting, unexpected results are presented. Biosorption of copper by wine-relevant lactobacilli

Must and wine may be contaminated with elevated copper concentrations by the use of fungicides or in course of the vinification process. Hitherto only a few practicable and harmless procedures exist to reduce an excess of copper from must and wine. For this reason we investigated the biosorption of copper by eight wine-relevant Lactobacillus species. Both, living and heat-inactivated cells revealed a significant degree of Cu adsorption. It was shown that Cu binding correlated positively with an increasing pH value of the environment. Study of the effect of H2S, MeSH and DMS on the sensory profile of wine model solutions by Rate-All-That-Apply (RATA)

The effect of hydrogen sulfide (HS), methanethiol (MeSH) and dimethyl sulfide (DMS) on the odor properties of three wine models-WM- (young white, young red and oaked red wines) was studied. Wine models were built by mixing a pool of common wine volatile and non-volatile compounds and further spiked with eight different combinations of the three sulfur compounds present at two levels (level 0: 0 μg L and level 1: 40 μg L of HS, 12 μg L of MeSH; 55 μg L of DMS). Comparison of SWAP and FAO Agro-Hydrological Models to Schedule Irrigation of Wine Grapes

This paper compares two agro-hydrological models that are used to schedule irrigation of a typical Mediterranean crop. In particular, a comparison between the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) model, which uses a black box approach, and the soil-water-atmosphere-plant (SWAP) model, which is based on the numerical analysis of Richards' equation, are shown for wine grape. Pythium burgundicum sp. nov. isolated from soil samples taken in French vineyards.

During the course of investigation on pythiaceous fungi occurring in the Burgundian vineyards, a new species of Pythium has been isolated. This oomycete is characterized by its nonproliferating and nonsporulating, spherical to cylindrical type of sporangia (hyphal bodies) germinating through germ tubes, smooth-walled oogonia that are supplied with hypogynous, monoclinous or rarely diclinous antheridia, and smooth-walled oospores. The antheridial cells are very prominent and are reminiscent of Pythium bifurcatum, Pythium segnitium and Pythium longandrum described previously by the author.
