2021
Aim and objectives To investigate how organisational and individual resources are linked to older (50+) nursing professionals’ organisational commitment, and to examine the possible mediating role of the active use of selection, optimisation and compensation (SOC) strategies. Background Many healthcare organisations need to find ways to retain their older nursing professionals due to nursing shortage. Design To test a set of hypotheses, cross-sectional survey data (n = 396) were used. Data were analysed using correlation analysis and partial least-squares structural equation modelling. Etic and emic data production methods in the study of journalistic work practices : A systematic literature review
2023
This methodological paper discusses the application of etic and emic perspectives in producing data sets for the study of journalistic praxis. The concepts refer to the researcher-analyst’s and the practitioner-informant’s viewpoints, respectively, and that being the case, they have inherent weaknesses if used independently. We argue that these shortcomings can be mitigated through an integrated application of the concepts and by seeing the two perspectives as complementary to each other. Combining etic and emic perspectives will allow for a more comprehensive understanding of complex yet routinized real-life behaviour such as journalistic work. Following the appraisal of the etic-emic comb…
Perceived High Involvement Work Practices and Retirement Intentions
2018
Sustainable human resource management (HRM) stresses the importance of maintaining and developing organizations’ human capital for social, ecological and financial reasons. The study population consisted of older (more than 50 years) nursing professionals who work at a Finnish univer…

Conforming to and resisting imposed identities : An autoethnography on academic motherhood
2022
Purpose This research attempts to make sense of the experiences of two academic women who become mothers. Design/methodology/approach This paper is an autoethnography. Applying the autoethnographic method allows us to discuss cultural phenomena through personal reflections and experiences. Our autoethnographic reflections illustrate our struggles and attempts of resistance within discursive spaces where motherhood and our identity as academics intersect. Findings Our personal experiences combined with theoretical elaborations illuminate how the role of the mother continues to be dominated by such gendered discursive practices that conflict with the work role. Once women become mothers, they…

Tutkimuksen aineisto on kerätty kyselylomakkeella, joka lähetettiin kaikille Suomen varhaiserityisopettajille, jotka tekevät konsultoivaa työtä ilman omaa lapsiryhmää (N = 637). Kyselyyn vastasi 368 varhaiserityisopettajaa (58 %). Perhelähtöisen työn ulottuvuuksia muodostui eksploratiivisen faktorianalyysin …
