Abstract To assess the exposure to PCDD/Fs of a cohort of 1583 workers of a herbicide producing plant in Hamburg, FRG, investigated for cancer mortality, measurements of PCDD/Fs in fat tissue (n=48) or blood (n=64) were analyzed according to work histories in a subgroup of n=112 male workers. In a multiple regression analysis the time of work in the production of 2,4,5-T and 2,4,5-TCP, for the latter especially before 1957, correlated well with the levels of 2378-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). Driven Brownian particle as a paradigm for a nonequilibrium heat bath: Effective temperature and cyclic work extraction

We apply the concept of a frequency-dependent effective temperature based on the fluctuation-dissipation ratio to a driven Brownian particle in a nonequilibrium steady state. Using this system as a thermostat for a weakly coupled harmonic oscillator, the oscillator thermalizes according to a canonical distribution at the respective effective temperature across the entire frequency spectrum. By turning the oscillator from a passive "thermometer" into a heat engine, we realize the cyclic extraction of work from a single thermal reservoir, which is feasible only due to its nonequilibrium nature.

Abstract In the theory of spin glasses the relaxation processes are modelled by random jumps in ultrametric spaces. One may argue that at the border of glassy and nonglassy phases the processes combining diffusion and jumps may be relevant. Using the Dirichlet form technique we construct a model of diffusion on the real line with jumps on the Cantor set. The jumps preserve the ultrametric feature of a random process on unit ball of 2-adic numbers.
The mixed capacitated general routing problem with turn penalties

In this paper we deal with the mixed capacitated general routing problem with turn penalties. This problem generalizes many important arc and node routing problems, and it takes into account turn penalties and forbidden turns, which are crucial in many real-life applications, such as mail delivery, waste collection and street maintenance operations. Through a polynomial transformation of the considered problem into a Generalized Vehicle routing problem, we suggest a new approach for solving this new problem by transforming it into an Asymmetric Capacitated Vehicle routing problem.
